CHAIN SAW SAFETY WARNINGS

WARNING:
Kickbackmayoccurwhenthemovingchain
contactsanobjectattheupperportionofthe
tipoftheguidebarorwhenthewoodcloses
inandpinchesthesawchaininthecut.Con-
tactattheupperportionofthetipoftheguide
barcancausethechaintodigintotheobject
andstopthechainforaninstant.Theresultis
alightningfast,reversereactionwhichkicks
theguidebarupandbacktowardtheopera-
tor.Ifthesawchainispinchedalongthetop
oftheguidebar,theguidebarcanbedriven
rapidly back toward the operator. Either of
thesereactionscancauselossofsawcontrol
whichcanresultinseriousinjury.Donotrely
exclusivelyuponthesafetydevicesbuiltinto
thesaw.Asachainsawuser,youshouldtake
severalstepstokeepyourcuttingjobsfree
fromaccidentorinjury.
The following precautions should be followed
to minimize kickback:
•Alwaysgripthesawfirmlywithbothhands.
Hold the saw firmly with bothhandswhen
theunitisrunning.Placeyourrighthandon
therear handle andyourleft hand on the
front handle with your thumbsand fingers
encirclingthechainsawhandles.Afirmgrip
togetherwithastiffleftarmwillhelpyoumain-
taincontrolofthesawifkickbackoccurs.
•Makesurethattheareainwhichyouarecut-
tingisfreefromobstructions.Donotletthe
noseoftheguidebarcontactalog,branch,
fence,oranyotherobstructionthatcouldbe
hitwhileyouareoperatingthesaw.
•Alwayscutwiththeunitrunningatfullspeed.
Fullysqueezethethrottletriggerandmaintain
asteadycuttingspeed.
•Usereplacementpartssuchaslowkickback
chainandspecialguidebarsthatreducethe
risksassociatedwithrotationalkickback.Use
onlythereplacementguidebarsandlowkick-
backchainsspecifiedbythemanufacturerfor
thesaw.
With a basic understandingof kickback, you
canreduceoreliminatetheelementofsurprise.
Suddensurprisecontributestoaccidents.
Donotoverreach.Keepproperfootingandbal-
ance at all times.
Do not cut abovechest height or overreach
whencutting.Donotletthenoseoftheguide
barcontactalog,branch,ground,oranyother
obstructionwhileyouareoperatingtheunit.
