MAINTENANCE
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Avoidusingsolventswhencleaningplasticparts.Most
plasticsaresusceptibletodamagefromvarioustypesof
commercialsolventsandmaybedamagedbytheiruse.Use
cleanclothstoremovedirt,dust,oil,grease,etc.
WARNING:
Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petro-
leum-based products, penetrating oils, etc., come in
contact with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage,
weakenordestroyplasticwhichmayresultinserious
personalinjury.
TRANSPORTING AND STORING
Alwaysplacethescabbardonthebladebeforestoring
ortransportingthehedgetrimmer.Usecautiontoavoid
thesharpteethoftheblade.
Cleanthehedgetrimmerthoroughlybeforestoring.Store
thehedgetrimmerindoors,inadryplacethatisinac-
cessibletochildren.Keepawayfromcorrosiveagents
suchasgardenchemicalsandde-icingsalts.
LUBRICATING THE BLADES
See Figure 7.
WARNING:
Alwaysallowthebladesofthehedgetrimmertocome
toastopandremovethebatterypackbeforelubricating.
Failure to do so could result in accidental starting causing
possibleseriouspersonalinjury.
Foreasieroperationandlongerbladelife,lubricate the
hedgetrimmerbladebeforeandaftereachuse.
Removethebatterypackfromthehedgetrimmer.
Laythehedgetrimmeronaflatsurface.Applylightweight
machineoilalongtheedgeofthetopblade.
NOTE: Ifyouwillbeusingthehedgetrimmerforanextended
time,itisadvisabletooilthebladeperiodically.
Stopthehedgetrimmer.
Removethebatterypack.
Lubricatethehedgetrimmerasdescribedabove.
Reinstallthebatterypackandresumeuse.
SHARPENING THE BLADE
See Figure 8.
Allowthebladesofthehedgetrimmertocometoastop
inthepositionshown.Thiswillallowclearanceforthe
filebetweenthecutterteethandtheguardteeth.
Removethebatterypackfromthehedgetrimmer.
Clampthebladeassemblyinaviseandfiletheexposed
cuttingsurfaceofeachbladetoothwithan8in.smooth
roundfile,1/4in.or7/32in.indiameter.Besuretoretain
theoriginalangleofthetoothwhenfiling.
Removethehedgetrimmerfromthevise,replacethe
batterypack,andrestartthehedgetrimmer.Allowthe
bladesofthehedgetrimmertocometoastopsothat
theunsharpenededgesontheothersideofthecutter
bladeteethareexposed.
Removebatterypackfromhedgetrimmerandrepeat
thesharpeningprocedureasdescribedabove.
CLEANING THE HEDGE TRIMMER
Removethebatterypack.
Slidethescabbardovertheblade.
Cleandirtanddebrisfromthebodyofthehedgetrimmer,
usingadampclothwithamilddetergent.
NOTE: Donotuseanystrongdetergentsontheplastic
housingorthehandle.Theycanbedamagedbycertain
aromaticoilssuchaspineandlemon,andbysolvents
suchaskerosene.
Moisturecancauseashockhazard.Wipeoffanymois-
turewithasoftdrycloth.
Useasmallbrushortheairdischargeofasmallvacuum
cleanerbrushtocleardustordebrisfromtheairvents
onthemotorhousing.
STORING THE HEDGE TRIMMER

Cleanthehedgetrimmerthoroughlybeforestoring.Store
thehedgetrimmerina dry, well-ventilated placethat
isinaccessibletochildren.Keepawayfromcorrosive
agentssuchasgardenchemicalsandde-icingsalts.
Alwaysplacethescabbardonthecuttingbladesbefore
storing.
