OPERATION
DRILLING/DRIVING SCREWS
See Figure 7, page 9.
Checkthedirectionofrotationselectorforthecorrect
setting(forwardorreverse).
Select low speed (1) or high speed (2), depending on
yourapplication.RefertoTwo-Speed Gear Train and
Adjusting Torque.
Securetheworkpieceinaviseorwithclampstokeepit
fromturningasthebitrotates.
Holdthedrillfirmlyandplacethebitatthepointtobe
drilled,orwherethescrewistobedriven.
WARNING:
Donotdriveascrewwherethereislikelytobehidden
wiringbehindthesurface.Contactwitha“live”wirewill
makeexposedmetalpartsofthetool“live”andpossibly
shocktheoperator.Ifyoumustdriveascrewwherehid-
denwiremaybepresent,alwaysholdtoolbyinsulated
grippingsurfaces(handle)whenperformingtheoperation
topreventashocktotheoperator.
Depresstheswitchtriggertostartthedrill.
Movethebitintotheworkpiece,applyingonlyenough
pressuretokeepthebitcuttingordrivingthescrew.Do
notforcethedrillorapplysidepressuretoelongatea
hole.Letthetooldothework.
WARNING:
When drilling, be prepared for binding at bit break-
through.Whenthesesituationsoccur,drillhasatenden-
cytograbandkickoppositetothedirectionofrotation
andcouldcauselossofcontrolwhenbreakingthrough
material.Ifnotprepared,thislossofcontrolcanresult
inpossibleseriousinjury.
Whendrillinghard,smoothsurfaces,useacenterpunch
tomarkthedesiredholelocation.Thiswillpreventthebit
fromslippingoff-centerastheholeisstarted.
Ifthebitjamsintheworkpieceorifthedrillstalls,stop
thetoolimmediately.Removethebitfromtheworkpiece
anddeterminethereasonforjamming.
NOTE: This drill has an electric brake. When the switch
triggerisreleased,thechuckstopsturning.Whenthebrake
isfunctioningproperly, sparkswillbevisiblethroughthe
ventslotsonthehousing.Thisisnormalandistheaction
of the brake.
NOTE:
If operation creates considerable dust, frequent
vacuumingoftheworkareaisrecommended.
WOOD AND METAL DRILLING
Formaximumperformance,usehighspeedsteelbitsfor
woodormetaldrilling.Selectdrillingmode.Begindrilling
ataverylowspeedtopreventthebitfromslippingoffthe
startingpoint.
Wood Drilling
Increasethespeedasthedrillbitbitesintothematerial.
Whendrillingthroughholes,placeablockofwoodbehind
theworkpiecetopreventraggedorsplinterededgeson
thebacksideofthehole.
Metal and Steel Drilling
Usealightoilonthedrillbittokeepitfromoverheating.
Theoilwill prolong the lifeof the bit and increasethe
drillingaction.
Maintain a speed and pressure which allows cutting
withoutoverheatingthebit.Applyingtoomuchpressure
will:
•Overheatthedrill;
•Wearthebearings;
•Bendorburnbits;and
•Produceoff-centerorirregular-shapedholes.
Whendrillinglargeholesinmetal,startwithasmallbit,
then finish with a larger bit.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING:
When servicing, useonlyidenticalreplacement parts.
Useofanyotherpart couldcreateahazardor cause
productdamage.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most
plasticsaresusceptibletodamagefromvarioustypesof
commercialsolventsandcanbedamagedbytheiruse.Use
cleanclothstoremovedirt,dust,oil,grease,etc.
