The Harvia PC70XE, PC70XW, PC90XE, and PC90XW are electric sauna heaters designed to warm a sauna room to bathing temperature. They are intended for use in family saunas and multi-apartment building saunas. The heaters are controlled via a separate control panel (CX001WIFI, WX694 (WiFi)).
Function Description:
The sauna heater operates by heating sauna stones, which then radiate heat into the sauna room. The control panel allows users to set the desired temperature and operating time. Once the set temperature is reached, the heating elements automatically turn off and on periodically to maintain the desired temperature. The heater can be switched on/off manually from the control panel or remotely if equipped with a remote switch (e.g., building automation).
The control panel features a display that shows the set temperature and remaining on-time. It also includes menu and navigation buttons for adjusting settings, as well as dedicated buttons for turning the heater and sauna lighting on/off.
Important Technical Specifications:
The heaters come in two power outputs: 6.8 kW (PC70XE/XW) and 9.0 kW (PC90XE/XW).
- PC70XE/XW (6.8 kW):
- Dimensions (Width/Depth/Height): 320/320/930 mm
- Stone capacity: 10 kg (max. 90 kg)

Electrical connections vary depending on the power supply:
- 400 V 3N~:
- 6.8 kW: 5 x 1.5 mm² cable, 3 x 10 A fuse
- 9.0 kW: 5 x 2.5 mm² cable, 3 x 16 A fuse
- 230 V 3~:
- 6.8 kW: 4 x 2.5 mm² cable, 3 x 20 A fuse
- 9.0 kW: 4 x 4 mm² cable, 3 x 25 A fuse
- 230 V 1N~:
- 6.8 kW: 3 x 10 mm² cable, 1 x 35 A fuse
- 9.0 kW: 3 x 10 mm² cable, 1 x 50 A fuse
The heater requires a temperature sensor (WX248) and may include an overheat protector (ZSK-684). The control panel (WX683 or WX694 (WiFi)) is splash-proof and operates on low voltage.
Usage Features:
- Piling of Sauna Stones: Stones should be 5–10 cm in diameter, angular split-face, and intended for heater use (peridotite, olivine-dolerite, olivine). Ceramic or soft soapstones are forbidden. Stones should be washed before piling. A dense layer of stones should be piled against the steel grid to prevent direct heat radiation, especially in corners, while the rest of the stones should be piled loosely to allow air circulation. Heating elements must be completely covered by stones.
- Heating the Sauna: The first use may produce odors, requiring good ventilation. A properly insulated sauna typically reaches bathing temperature (60–75 °C) in about an hour.
- Control Panel Operation: The I/O button's backlight indicates standby mode. Pressing the I/O button turns the heater on/off. The display shows set temperature and remaining on-time.
- Settings Adjustment: Temperature can be set between 40–110 °C. Additional settings include maximum on-time (1–12 hours, default 6 hours), pre-setting time (timed switch-on in 10-minute steps), and sensor reading adjustment (+/- 10 units).
- Remote Control: The heater can be controlled remotely via a safety switch or door switch, adhering to IEC/EN 60335-2-53 standards. A pause time feature prevents remote restart if less than 6 hours have passed since the last shutdown.
- Power Saving Mode: Activates after 30 minutes of inactivity, with only the heater button (and "rc on" if remote use is active) remaining lit.
- Throwing Water: Use a ladle with a maximum volume of 0.2 liters. Avoid throwing excessive water or water when people are near the heater to prevent scalding. Use clean household water and special sauna aromas according to package instructions.
- Warnings: Prolonged exposure to hot sauna temperatures can be dangerous. Avoid touching hot heater surfaces. Children, handicapped, sick, or weak individuals should not be left unsupervised. Consult a doctor for health limitations. Do not use the sauna under the influence of alcohol, strong medicines, or narcotics. Do not sleep in a heated sauna. Do not use the sauna for drying clothes due to fire risk and potential damage to electrical equipment.
Maintenance Features:
- Sauna Stones: Due to temperature variations, sauna stones disintegrate over time. They should be rearranged at least once a year (more often with frequent use). Remove stone pieces from the bottom of the heater and replace disintegrated stones with new ones to maintain optimal heating capability and prevent overheating. Ensure heating elements remain covered by stones, as they settle most rapidly within the first two months.
- Sauna Room Hygiene: Use bench towels to prevent sweat from reaching benches. Benches, walls, and floor should be thoroughly washed at least every six months with a scrubbing brush and sauna detergent. Wipe dust and dirt from the heater with a damp cloth. Remove lime stains with a 10% citric acid solution and rinse.
- Troubleshooting: All service operations must be performed by professional maintenance personnel. Error codes (E1, E2, E3, E9) and status messages (door open, SAFE, rESt, rc on) are displayed on the control panel to assist in diagnosing issues.
- Overheat Protector: The heater is equipped with an overheat protector (ZSK-684) in the sensor box. If the temperature around the sensor rises too high, the protector cuts off power. The reset button (WX311) allows for resetting, but the cause of activation must be determined first.
