Why does the high temperature limit trip on my Hatco Water Heater?
    • D
      Dan DixonAug 12, 2025
If the Hatco Water Heater's high temperature limit trips, it could be due to several reasons. The temperature limit might be set too low, in which case you should replace the High Limit Safety Switch if the booster heater isn't overheating. Alternatively, the thermostat could be set too high; adjust or recalibrate it to the proper temperature. Another cause might be that the incoming water temperature is too high, leading to nuisance tripping; ensure the incoming water temperature does not exceed 160°F (71°C).

What to do if the relief valve opens on my Hatco Water Heater?
    • D
      Dylan MatthewsAug 16, 2025
If your Hatco Water Heater's relief valve opens, it could be due to overheating. The thermostat might be set too high or is sticking, so recalibrate or replace the thermostat. Another potential cause is a contactor sticking in the closed position, preventing the unit from cycling off. If this is the case, replace the contactor(s).

Why is the water not at the proper temperature from my Hatco Water Heater?
    • K
      khanlucasAug 20, 2025
If the water at your dishmachine isn't at the proper temperature when using a Hatco Water Heater, start by checking the gauges with a thermometer to ensure they're working correctly; replace them if they are not. Also, the thermostat might be set too low, so adjust or recalibrate it. If it won't recalibrate, replace it. Finally, if the booster heater is more than (5) linear feet (1524 mm) from the dishwasher, insulate the pipes or install a recirculating system to prevent water from cooling off.

Why is the relief valve dribbling on my Hatco Water Heater?
    • K
      Kristin MorenoAug 27, 2025
If the Hatco Water Heater's relief valve is dribbling, it might be due to a few reasons. There may be no pressure reducing valve installed or an incorrect valve, causing pressure build-up; install a pressure reducing valve with high pressure bypass in the incoming water line. The bypass in the pressure reducing valve may be blocked; clean the bypass or replace the valve. Also, a check valve or anti-siphon valve installed in the feed line could be the cause; remove it or install a back pressure relief valve on the incoming water line, Hatco part number 03.02.039.00.

How to fix a chattering contactor on a Hatco Water Heater?
    • L
      Lance MullinsAug 31, 2025
If you're experiencing a chattering contactor or low water cutoff circuit board with your Hatco Water Heater, it could be due to loose connections or a wire connection with insulation under the crimp; tighten all connections and check crimps. Low voltage could also be the issue; check the control circuit voltage or secondary voltage with the transformer. Additionally, the probe may be fouled; bypass the probe by removing the wire from the low water cutoff probe and grounding it to the tank, then clean or replace the probe if the chattering stops. Finally, the contactor(s) may be bad; test the contactor coils and replace them if necessary.

Why do the heating elements burn out in my Hatco Water Heater?
    • L
      Laura OrtizSep 4, 2025
Heating elements in your Hatco Water Heater might burn out due to a couple of reasons. The tank may have been inadvertently drained, leaving the elements in a dry condition; ensure the tank is full of water at all times and check the low water cut-off system for proper operation. Also, lime buildup in the tank can cause the elements to split and burn out; clean or delime the tanks periodically, and consider using a water softener or blended phosphate treatment system.

What to do if Hatco Water Heater is not heating properly?
    • L
      Lucas HudsonNov 22, 2025
If your Hatco Water Heater isn't heating at all or only delivers water at 120°-150°F (49°-66°C), several issues could be the cause. The unit may have been energized without water, which burns out the elements quickly, so replace the element(s). Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers and replace or reset them as needed. Over-current fuses may also be blown, indicating shorted elements, a bad fuse block, or a short in the wiring. Ensure the temperature setting is at a maximum of 190°F (88°C). If the contactors aren't pulling in, test for voltage at the coils and replace the contactors if the coils are open or shorted. The high limit switch may be tripped or defective; reset it, and if it continues to trip, contact an Authorized Service Agent. If the transformer isn't working prope...
