Tips for safety
Safe driving
Do not take risks just because the vehicle is
equipped with driving assist systems. Maintain
a speed and driving style that is appropriate for
the visibility, weather, road and traffic conditions.
Modification
Any modification to the suspension or using
tires or wheels that do not comply with the
equipment specifications will affect the driving
assist systems and may result in a system
failure.
Sound and vibration
Some driving assist system (such as the ABS)
may produce vibrations or sounds from the
motor during operation. These do not
indicate a failure.
When the vehicle is jump-started due to a
flat 12V battery, the engine may not run
smoothly, and the ABS or ESP warning light
may illuminate. These issues are caused by
the low battery voltage but do not indicate
that the ABS or ESP has failure.
Anti-lock brake system
During emergency braking or when braking on
a slippery road, the anti-lock braking system
(ABS) helps to maintain control of steering by
preventing the wheels from locking.
⚠ Caution
Do not press the braking pedal lightly in
multiple times during emergency braking. This
will increase your stopping distance.
The ABS is not designed to reduce your
stopping distance. In the following situations,
your vehicle may need a longer stopping
distance than one not equipped with an ABS.
You must maintain a safe distance from the
vehicle in front:
On muddy, rocky or snow-covered roads.
When using tire chains.
On roads with potholes.
On bumpy roads.
The ABS may not work effectively in the
following situations:
When tire grip exceeds the limit (e.g. With
excessively worn tires on a snowy road).
Driving at high speeds on a wet road
surface.
Electronic brake force distribution
system
When the vehicle is braking, the electronic brake
force distribution system (EBD) automatically
adjusts the braking force distribution ratio of
the front and rear axles to improve braking
efficiency. The system also works with the ABS
to improve braking stability, thereby keeping
the vehicle stable.
