Overview

This document describes the hawo hd 680 DE rotary sealing machine, a device designed for trade and industrial use, specifically for sealing sterilisation packaging.

Function Description

The hd 680 DE is a rotary sealing machine that creates a continuous seal on various packaging materials. The sealing process is largely automated:

  1. Insertion: After the sterilisation packaging is inserted, the transport mechanism automatically switches on.
  2. Heating and Sealing: The packaging is then heated by dies positioned above and below the sealing seam area, reaching the set temperature. The sealing seam is pressed through sealing rolls and sealed.
  3. Transport and Withdrawal: The completed sterilisation packaging is transported to the withdrawal side.
  4. Automatic Shutdown: If no further material is fed into the transport mechanism, it switches off after approximately 30 seconds.

The machine features an adjustable sealing edge setting, controlled by a knurled screw. The lower insertion plate can be set infinitely variably for sealing widths between 0 and 35mm. The sealing temperature is electronically monitored by a temperature sensor. If the temperature deviates by more than 5°C from the set point (as per DIN 58953-7 requirements), the drive is disabled to ensure consistent sealing quality.

Important Technical Specifications

The hd 680 DE is available in different voltage configurations: 100V, 115V, and 230V, operating at 50/60Hz.

Power and Electrical:

  • Power connection: 100 / 115 / 230 V, 50/60Hz
  • Mains fuse: 6.3 / 4 AT (for 100-115V/230V respectively)
  • Power consumption max.: 500 VA

Performance:

  • Cycle speed: 10 m/min
  • Sealing temperature max.: 220 °C
  • Temperature tolerance: ± 2 %
  • Sealing seam width: 12 mm
  • Sealing edge: 0-35 mm, infinitely variable
  • Sealing seam length: unlimited

Physical Characteristics:

  • Dimensions (Length x Width x Height): 505 x 220 x 145 mm
  • Weight approximately: 11.7 kg
  • Ambient temperature: 5-25 °C
  • Temperature control: electronic

Sealable Materials (in accordance with EN ISO 11607-1):

  • Paper pouches (EN 868-4)
  • Pouches and reels of film and paper (EN 868-5, EN 868-3)
  • Pouches and reels of film and uncoated nonwoven materials of polyolefines (ISO 11607, EN 868-5, EN 868-9) - requires approval and/or tests
  • Aluminium-laminate film - requires approval and/or tests
  • Sealable PA/PE - on request

Non-Sealable Materials:

  • Polyethylene films (soft PVC films)
  • Hard PVC films (polyamide films)
  • Polypropylene films (coated HDPE)

The correct sealing temperature for specific packaging materials must be identified through test sealing (DIN 58953-7). The device's output depends on the condition of the sealing material used.

Usage Features

Commissioning:

  1. Plug the power cable into the power connection.
  2. Switch the machine on using the power switch (setting "1"); the control light will illuminate.
  3. Set the desired sealing temperature on the temperature regulator (refer to chapter 3.3 for details).
  4. The machine is ready for operation once the set sealing temperature is displayed.

Operation:

  1. Adjust the desired sealing edge width by loosening the knurled screw and setting the lower insertion plate (0-35mm).
  2. Insert packaging into the machine from the left over the insertion plate.
  3. Withdraw the sealed packaging from the exit side and allow it to cool briefly.
  4. Inspect the sealing seam:
    • If points are not tightly sealed, increase the sealing temperature.
    • If the foil melts, the set temperature is too high.
    • Always perform test sealing to identify the appropriate temperature (DIN 58953-7).

Safety Instructions:

  • The machine should not be installed or operated by persons under 14 years of age.
  • Do not operate without supervision.
  • Switch off or unplug when not in use.
  • Clean only with a dry or slightly damp cloth; never wet clean.
  • Do not operate under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Do not use if the power cable, plug, or machine is damaged. In case of damage, contact an authorized service center.
  • Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • The unit must not be installed or operated in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Use only grounded power outlets with a grounding conductor and stable voltage supply.
  • Install in a dry environment, away from heavy dust, steam, dripping water, and splashes.
  • Ensure operating voltage matches the rating plate.
  • Do not lift or transport by using the sealing edge adjuster.
  • Maintain a 200mm gap between the machine and the wall for proper ventilation.

Maintenance Features

Fault Clearance: The manual provides a detailed fault clearance checklist for common issues:

  • Machine does not switch on: Check network connection, power cable, and mains fuse.
  • Machine is not heating: Check target temperature, over-temperature cut-out, temperature regulator, heating element, and solid-state relay.
  • No material transport: Check motor, micro switch, toothed belt, and toothed belt tension.
  • Loud running noise: Check motor.
  • Sealing seam does not hold up: Increase sealing temperature, adjust clearance between sealing dies (to 0.5mm).
  • Sealing seam distorted or melted: Reduce sealing temperature.

Maintenance Plan:

  • Cleaning: At least every 3 months.
  • Teflon strip Guide die, Teflon strip Sealing die, Pressure roller, Toothed belt, Sealing die: According to load, at least once per year.
  • The machine should be serviced by a qualified person at least once per year to ensure permanent readiness.

Spare Parts Service:

  • An order form is provided for easy ordering of spare parts via fax. Users need to fill in address, fax/order number, serial number, machine type, mark required items, enter quantity, and sign the order.
  • Detailed diagrams with product numbers are provided for key components such as the upper and lower sealing dies, temperature sensor, heating elements, Teflon strips, over-temperature cut-out, pressure roller, transport toothed belt, IEC cable feed with switch, optical sensor, time relay, SST relay, fan, and gear motor.

hawo Customer Service:
