Why is my Hayward Perflex Swimming Pool Filter leaking D.E. back to the pool?
    • J
      Julie HallJul 26, 2025
If your Hayward Swimming Pool Filter is leaking D.E. back to the pool via the skimmer or main drain, the filter check valve may be worn or stuck open. Try cleaning and/or replacing it.

Why is my Hayward Perflex Swimming Pool Filter running at high pressures?
    • M
      Margaret WilsonJul 30, 2025
High pressure in your Hayward Swimming Pool Filter is often due to the D.E. being coated with dirt, algae, or an overcharge of D.E. Try 'bumping' the filter or 'bumping, draining, and recharging' it. Other causes include a restriction in the return line from a small eyeball fitting (change to a larger size) or a partially closed valve on the return line (open the valve).

Why does my Hayward Swimming Pool Filter have short cycles?
    • A
      Anthony ConradAug 3, 2025
If your Hayward Swimming Pool Filter has short cycles, it could be that the D.E. is loaded with dirt and algae. Try bumping, draining, and recharging the filter. Ensure you are bumping correctly with a slow downstroke and brisk upstroke, repeating six times. Also, check if the bump handle is bent and straighten or replace it. The pump output might exceed the filter's design flow rate; check the GPM/LPM output and regulate it to the filter's maximum rating. Finally, the presence of algae can cause short cycles, so super-chlorinate and bump, drain, and recharge as needed.

Why is there a drop off of return flow in my Hayward Perflex Swimming Pool Filter?
    • M
      Michelle JenkinsAug 8, 2025
A drop in return flow in your Hayward Swimming Pool Filter can happen when the D.E. is coated with dirt and algae, so try bumping the filter. Other potential causes include a clogged pump strainer basket or skimmer basket, so clean them. Clogged pump impeller vanes can also restrict flow; try cleaning them with a stiff wire brush through the pump strainer opening, or disassemble and clean. Check for air leaks on the suction side of the pump by inspecting the cover gasket, hand knobs, hose, and clamps, and replace or tighten as necessary. Lastly, an electric motor running at less than maximum RPM could be the reason. Consult the pump and motor troubleshooting guide, noting that most motor problems are due to undersized or improper wiring, power cut-backs, or a combination of both.

What to do if my Hayward Swimming Pool Filter has very short cycles when vacuuming?
    • C
      Carlos HuffmanAug 12, 2025
If your Hayward Swimming Pool Filter is experiencing very short cycles when vacuuming, it could be due to very dirty water. Try bumping, draining, and recharging more often. Another cause could be the presence of vigorously growing algae; add enough chlorine to control the growth, then vacuum. Also, the presence of alum or flocking agents can clog the filter; vacuum so as to bypass the filter and avoid using flocking agents.

What causes hard bumping in my Hayward Perflex Swimming Pool Filter?
    • S
      Samantha RussoAug 16, 2025
If you are experiencing hard bumping with your Hayward Swimming Pool Filter, it could be due to caking of D.E. under the tube sheet, often caused by sun tan oils, hair, or floating particles. Try bumping, draining, and recharging more often and reduce the use of oils. It could also be overloaded with D.E., which sometimes happens when the last charge of dirty D.E. was not properly drained; bump, drain, and recharge with the proper amount of D.E. If the filter runs too long between bumping, bump more frequently.

What causes short cycles in my Hayward Swimming Pool Filter even after Bump-Drain-Recharge?
    • J
      Jose KhanAug 20, 2025
If your Hayward Swimming Pool Filter has short cycles even after a proper Bump-Drain-Recharge, the Flex-Tube braids might be contaminated (clogged). This can be due to the natural accumulation of chemical deposits (accelerated if chemicals are fed through the skimmer), running the D.E. charge too long with an excessive amount of live algae, operating the filter without D.E., or operating too long without D.E. after starting the pump. Clean the tube nest using either detergent cleaning (remove the tube nest, hose it down, soak it in a strong detergent solution, and hose it down again) or chemical cleaning (use a water and muriatic acid solution or filter cleaner; consult your pool dealer for instructions).
