Overview

This document describes the HDSX TV Sound Optimizer and HDSX TV Sound Optimizer S, devices designed to enhance the audio experience of television viewing.

Function Description

The HDSX TV Sound Optimizer is a device that processes audio signals to deliver a "perfectly balanced TV sound." It receives audio from a TV or receiver and outputs an optimized signal to a sound system, headphones, or both. The device is powered via a 5V USB port, typically from the TV itself.

Key functions include:

  • Audio Optimization: The core function is to optimize volume levels, preventing sharp jumps and ensuring a balanced sound experience. It automatically detects and optimizes low volume levels, which can lead to a considerable increase in volume when activated.
  • Parallel Output: The device allows for parallel output to different audio systems. For example, a soundbar can be connected via the digital output while headphones are connected via the analog output, enabling simultaneous listening through both.
  • Headphone Surround Sound (Model S): The HDSX TV Sound Optimizer Model S specifically offers HDSX.headphone Surround Sound, providing a cinematic audio experience when using headphones.
  • Signal Path Activation: The device features LED indicators ([7] and [8]) that light up blue when the respective signal paths (TOSLINK and ANALOG) are active, confirming that the HDSX optimization is engaged.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Enclosure: Metal, black

  • Dimensions: Length: 5.3 cm, Wide: 9 cm, Height: 2.38 cm

  • Operating Temperature Range: 5° C - 35° C

Usage Features

Setup and Connection:

  1. Power: Connect the supplied USB cable from a USB socket on the TV to the device's USB POWER 5V socket [1].
  2. Audio Input: Connect the Toslink output (usually labeled "Digital Audio Out") of the TV or receiver to the device's TOSLINK IN socket [3] using the supplied Toslink cable. Ensure protective caps are removed from the cable ends.
  3. Audio Output: Connect the audio input of the desired speaker/headphone system to either the device's TOSLINK OUT [4] or ANALOG OUT [2].
  4. Placement: The unit can be attached to the back of the TV using supplied self-adhesive Velcro straps or placed on a horizontal surface using the supplied self-adhesive rubber feet.

Configuration and Operation:

  • TV/Receiver Settings:
    • Set the TV's or receiver's (digital) sound output format to "PCM/stereo."
    • It is recommended to switch off any internal sound effects on the connected sound system or TV/receiver.
    • When using a receiver, set its output volume to approximately 95% to ensure sufficient input level for the HDSX device.
  • Volume Control: Before switching on the unit for the first time or activating HDSX optimization, turn down the volume of the audio system/headphones to avoid sharp volume jumps. Once HDSX is activated, set the desired volume level on the external sound system.
  • HDSX Activation: The HDSX TV Sound Optimizer is activated via switches [5] and [6]. The blue LED lamps [7] and [8] indicate active signal paths.
  • Headphone Use: If using headphones, it's advisable not to put them on until HDSX optimization is activated. The TV's internal speakers can be left on if listening in parallel through headphones.
  • Compatibility: If the TV lacks a "Digital Audio Out/Toslink" with a PCM signal, an "Analogue to Digital Toslink" converter is recommended to connect the TV's analog output to the unit.

Safety Precautions:

  • Do not open the unit, as this voids the warranty.
  • Avoid placing the unit in extremely hot (e.g., direct sunlight, sauna, closed vehicle in summer) or cold environments (outside 5° C - 35° C).
  • Keep naked flames away from the appliance.
  • Ensure sufficient air supply; do not place the unit in narrow shelves.
  • Do not operate the unit with uncertified power adapters or other unproven power supplies.
  • Avoid locations with excessive dust or strong vibrations.
  • Ensure stable placement to prevent tipping or falling; do not leave valuables near the unit.

Maintenance Features

  • Disposal: The product should not be treated as normal household waste. It must be disposed of correctly at an appropriate collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment, in accordance with EU directives and other countries with separate collection systems. This helps protect the environment and human health by reducing raw material consumption and preventing incorrect disposal.
  • Software: The software is provided under license from Kronoton, granting rights to use the device for correct commissioning. Copyright, IP rights, and rights to change, edit, and further develop the software remain with Kronoton.
  • Warranty: Opening the unit irrevocably voids its warranty. Information on warranty conditions is available at https://www.hdsx.com/guarantee/?lang=en.
  • Support: Additional helpful answers and solutions can be found on the manufacturer's website: www.hdsx.com.
