What to do if the pilot lights but won't stay lit on my Hearth & Home SP18NG Gas Heater?
    • K
      Kimberly Bennett MDAug 1, 2025
If the pilot light on your Hearth & Home Gas Heater lights but doesn't stay lit, there are several potential causes. The thermocouple might be either too tight or too loose; ensure it's finger-tight plus an additional 1/8 turn with a wrench. A weak pilot flame could also be the issue; the pilot flame should fully engulf the thermocouple, so cleaning or adjusting the pilot for maximum flame impingement may help. Finally, the thermocouple itself could be defective. Test it with a millivolt meter; readings should exceed 14 mV. If not, replace the thermocouple.

How to fix a Hearth & Home SP18NG Gas Heater when a match will not light the pilot?
    • Z
      zjonesAug 14, 2025
If a match won't light the pilot on your Hearth & Home Gas Heater, first ensure the main gas shutoff valve on the incoming gas line is open. If that's not the problem, there may be air in the gas line; turn the valve knob to the “PILOT” position, depress, and hold a lit match near the pilot burner until it lights. Also, make sure the valve knob isn't in the “OFF” position; it should be in the “PILOT” position when lighting. Check the plumbing to make sure that the fireplace has been hooked up the gas supply line. Check if the propane tank is empty.
