What to do if my HearthSense Heater shuts off in use?
    • T
      Timothy RobertsonAug 20, 2025
If your HearthSense Heater shuts off in use, and the ODS (Oxygen Depletion Sensor) operates, it could be due to several reasons. First, ensure the room has adequate fresh air by opening a window or door for ventilation. Another possible cause is low line pressure, which requires contacting your local gas supplier. Lastly, a partially clogged ODS/pilot can also cause this issue; consider cleaning the ODS/pilot.

Why does my HearthSense Heater smell like gas during combustion?
    • D
      Derek ArmstrongAug 22, 2025
If you notice a gas odor during combustion with your HearthSense Heater, it could be due to foreign matter between the control valve and burner. In this case, you should take apart the gas tubing and remove any foreign matter. Another potential cause is a gas leak. You should locate and correct any leaks.

Why does my HearthSense Heater produce unwanted odors?
    • J
      jennifernelsonAug 25, 2025
If your HearthSense Heater produces unwanted odors, it could be due to several reasons. One possibility is that the heater is burning vapors from paint, hair spray, glues, or other similar products. To resolve this, ventilate the room and stop using odor-causing products while the heater is running. Another potential cause is a gas leak, in which case you should locate and correct all leaks. If you are using a propane model, check if the fuel supply is low and refill the supply tank if needed.

What to do if my HearthSense Heater smells like gas when off?
    • Y
      Yolanda OlsonAug 27, 2025
If you smell gas even when the control knob of your HearthSense Heater is in the OFF position, it could be due to a gas leak. You should locate and correct all leaks. Alternatively, the control valve might be defective and need replacement.

Why is the flame on my HearthSense Heater yellow?
    • R
      Robert BruceAug 28, 2025
If you're experiencing a high yellow flame during burner combustion in your HearthSense Heater, it's often due to insufficient air. Check the burner for any dirt or debris and clean it if necessary. Another possible cause is low inlet gas pressure, which would require contacting your local gas supplier. Lastly, a defective gas regulator could also be the culprit, and in that case you should contact customer service.

What to do if HearthSense Heater sparks but doesn't ignite?
    • G
      gvasquezAug 30, 2025
If, when you press the ignitor button on your HearthSense Heater, there is a spark at the ODS/pilot but no ignition, first, make sure the gas supply is turned on and the equipment shutoff valve is open. Next, ensure the control knob is in the PILOT position and fully pressed in while pressing the ignitor button. If there is air in the gas lines from installation, continue holding down the control knob and repeat the igniting operation until the air is removed. If the ODS/pilot is clogged, clean or replace the ODS/pilot assembly. Check the inlet gas pressure; if incorrect or the inlet regulator setting is damaged, check the pressure or replace the regulator. Finally, if using propane, ensure the gas supply isn't depleted.

Why does the pilot light go out on my HearthSense Heater?
    • K
      Kristen MyersSep 1, 2025
If the ODS/pilot lights but the flame goes out when you release the control knob on your HearthSense Heater, make sure the control knob is fully pressed in and held for at least 30 seconds after the ODS/pilot lights. Also, ensure the equipment shutoff valve is fully open. Check that the thermocouple connection is snug at the control valve, tightening it by hand until snug, then another 1/4 turn. If the pilot flame isn't touching the thermocouple, contact your local gas company or clean/replace the ODS/pilot assembly. If the thermocouple is damaged, replace it. If none of this helps, the control valve may be damaged, and you should contact customer service.

Why won't the burner light on my HearthSense Heater?
    • K
      Kenneth WeberSep 2, 2025
If the burner(s) on your HearthSense Heater does not light after the ODS/pilot is lit, it could be due to a clogged burner orifice, which you should clean. Another possibility is that the inlet gas pressure is too low, in which case you should contact your local gas supplier.

Why is there a delay when my HearthSense Heater ignites?
    • J
      Jacqueline GomezSep 4, 2025
If you experience delayed ignition of the burner(s) on your HearthSense Heater, it could be due to low manifold pressure, which requires contacting your local gas supplier. Another possible cause is a clogged burner orifice, which you should clean.

Why does my HearthSense Heater whistle when lit?
    • R
      rwilsonSep 6, 2025
If your HearthSense Heater produces a whistling noise when the burner is lit, try turning the control knob to the low (1) position and let it warm up for a minute, especially if the burner is cold. The noise could also be due to air in the gas line, so operate the burner until the air is removed, and have the gas line checked by your local gas supplier. Blocked air passageways on the heater can also cause this, so ensure you observe minimum installation clearances. Finally, a dirty or partially clogged burner orifice might be the cause, so clean the burner.
