Why won't my HearthSense Gas Heater ignite even with a spark?
    • P
      Paula MckinneySep 6, 2025
If the ignitor button is pressed in and there is a spark at the ODS/pilot but no ignition on your HearthSense Gas Heater, make sure the gas supply is turned on and the equipment shutoff valve is open. Ensure the control knob is in the PILOT position and fully pressed in while pressing the ignitor button. If there is air in the gas lines (new installation or recent gas interruption), continue holding down the control knob and repeat the igniting operation until the air is removed. The ODS/pilot might be clogged, so clean or replace the ODS/pilot assembly. If you are using propane, the gas supply may be depleted, so contact your local propane gas company.

Why does my HearthSense VFL18M produce unwanted odors?
    • J
      Jeffrey JohnsonAug 21, 2025
If your HearthSense Gas Heater produces unwanted odors, it might be burning vapors from paint, hair spray, or glues. To resolve this, open a window to ventilate the room and stop using odor-causing products while the heater is running. Alternatively, there could be a gas leak, so locate and correct all leaks. Low fuel supply may also be the cause, so refill the supply tank if you have a propane model.
