Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for the Hecht 6284 XL / 6028 BOX Knives Shredder, an electric branch shredder designed for garden use. It includes safety information, technical specifications, operating instructions, and maintenance procedures.

Function Description:

The Hecht 6284 XL / 6028 BOX is an electric shredder designed to process garden waste, specifically branches and twigs, into smaller pieces. This shredded material can then be used for composting or mulching. The device operates by drawing branches into a feeding funnel where they are cut by rotating blades. It features a collecting box to gather the shredded material, ensuring a tidy workspace. The shredder is equipped with safety mechanisms, including an interlock switch and overload protection, to ensure safe operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 230V ~10% / ~50 Hz
  • Power (S6 40%): 2800 W
  • Power (S1): 2300 W
  • No-load rotation speed: 2850 min⁻¹
  • Ingress Protection: IP24
  • Max. blade rotation speed: 6500 min⁻¹
  • Thickness of branches: Ø 45 mm (maximum, depends on wood type and condition)
  • Weight: 25 kg
  • Collecting catcher volume: approx. 60 L
  • Guaranteed sound power level A, LWAd: 105 dB(A)
  • Measured sound power level A, LWAm / Uncertainty of KWA: 103 dB(A)
  • Measured emission sound pressure level A, LpAm at the operator's station / Uncertainty of KpA: 91 dB(A) K=3 dB(A)

The shredder operates under an S6 40% duty cycle, meaning continuous operation with intermittent loading (4 minutes load, 6 minutes idle). The maximum diameter of branches that can be shredded is Ø 45 mm, but this is dependent on the type and condition of the wood. Hardwood (e.g., oak/beech) or dry/knaggy wood will require a smaller maximum diameter than softwood (e.g., pine/spruce).

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The device requires some assembly, including installing wheels and a bracket foot, and fixing the support to the mainframe with screws.
  • Starting and Stopping: The shredder is started by pressing the "I" button and stopped by pressing the "o" button. An interlock switch with a key must be engaged to allow operation.
  • Feeding Funnel: Branches are fed into a top-mounted filling funnel.
  • Debris Bag Discharge: The shredded material is collected in a removable debris bag (collecting box). To empty, the shredder must be stopped, the interlock key pulled down, and the collecting box removed.
  • Overload Protection: The machine automatically stops if the crushing roller is blocked (e.g., by overly strong branches). After the engine cools, it can be restarted by pressing the black button.
  • Blocking of Re-start: In case of a power outage, the device will not automatically restart once power is restored; the "I" button must be pressed again.
  • Safety Distance: When shredding, users should maintain a safe distance from the machine, especially from the filling hole, as long branches may shoot out during drawing in.
  • Collecting Box Safety: For safety reasons, the device will not operate unless the collecting box is properly placed.
  • Operating Speed: Users should follow the possible operating speed and avoid overloading the machine to prevent blockages.
  • Material Handling: To prevent clogging, it is recommended to alternate wilted garden waste and thinner branches with larger branches. Soil and stones should be removed from roots before shredding. Soft and wet materials like kitchen waste should not be shredded but composted directly. A few dry branches should be saved to use as a tool for cleaning the device. The machine should only be stopped after all material has passed through the knife plate to prevent blockages upon restart.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning: The shredder should not be squirted with water. The device, wheels, and ventilation slots should be kept clean using a brush or a soft cloth, avoiding solvents or cleaners.
  • Pre-use Checks: Before each use, inspect the device for damage, ensure protective equipment is intact, and check for free and worn components. Verify that all nuts, bolts, and screws are firmly tightened. Check covers and protective equipment for damage and correct positioning, replacing if necessary.
  • Storage: Store the device in a dry place, away from children. Avoid wrapping the device in non-breathable material to prevent moisture formation.
  • Clearing a Blockage: If a blockage occurs, press the knob, unplug the mains plug, turn the knob to release the housing cover, and lift it. Remove the obstructing objects and clean the inside of the housing. Close and secure the housing cover by tightening the knob.
  • Blade Sharpening, Turning, or Replacement:
    1. Shut down the shredder and disconnect it from the mains.
    2. Press the OFF switch and unplug the mains plug. Turn the knob to release the housing cover and lift it.
    3. Loosen both bolts using a hexagonal key. The blade has a double-sided cutting edge.
    4. When cutting edges become blunt, the blade can be turned over by rotating it 180°.
    5. If both sides of the knives are dull, they should be replaced with new ones or sharpened in a workshop. It is important to maintain the balance of the blades.
    6. Screw the knife back in, ensuring correct positioning, and tighten the screws.
  • Service and Spare Parts: Work not specified in the manual should only be performed by an authorized service center using original spare parts. For technical advice, repair, or genuine factory replacement parts, contact the HECHT authorized service nearest you. Information on service locations and part numbers can be found on www.hecht.cz.
  • Disposal: Dispose of the device, accessories, and packaging in accordance with environmental protection regulations at a recycling collection center. The machine should not be disposed of in household waste.
