Overview

This document outlines the installation, maintenance, and user guide for a Hidria fan with an electronically commutated external-rotor motor, specifically model 0318-4-1005 (type R18R-080MPS-ET120B-01A01).

Function Description

The Hidria fan is designed as a built-in component for air-conditioning, air supply, and air extraction systems. It is intended for the transfer of air or air-like mixtures and should not be used in hazardous areas for gas, mix vapors, or mixtures, nor for transferring solid components. The fan operates as a variable speed device, with speed control via linear voltage input (0-10V), PWM signal, or other common methods. It features high efficiency and low-noise operation across its entire speed range. The control circuit is SELV isolated from the main power supply, including an external power supply for sensors. The fan is equipped with an integrated EMC filter and maintenance-free ball-bearings, and its rotating parts are dynamically balanced. It is designed for continuous operation (S1 according to IEC 60034-1) and is compatible with the Modbus RTU protocol.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The fan must be installed by qualified personnel, gripping the motor housing gently to avoid shocks. Safety shoes and cut-resistant gloves are recommended. It is primarily constructed for installation with the rotor on the bottom or with the shaft in a horizontal position. The fan must be fixed to a stationary housing using 8x M8 screws through holes on a diameter of 816 mm of the protection grid, with property class 8.8 screws and secured with Loctite or self-locking screws. A minimum 3 mm air-gap between the fan impeller and stationary housing is crucial. Lifting devices should be used with the provided hangers for safe handling.
  • Electrical Connection: Main electrical installation must be protected against short circuits (e.g., circuit breaker: max.16A, 400Vac, Type B). Means for disconnection must be incorporated in the fixed wiring. An all-pole separating switch must disconnect the fan. If a residual current-operated protective device (RCD) or monitoring (RCM) device is used, only a Type B+ RCD or RCM is allowed on the supply side, with a recommended sensitivity of 300mA and short time delayed intervention. The electrical connection must follow the enclosed connection diagram. Cable sheath needs to be stripped 50-60mm, and stranded wire ends should have insulated ferrules (pin length 8-10mm). The fan uses push-in spring terminals (PHOENIX SPTA or equivalent). A screwdriver of 0.6X3.5mm is needed for mains terminals, and 2.5x0.5mm for control circuit terminals. The terminal box screws should be tightened to 2.0Nm - 2.5Nm.
  • Operation: The fan is designed for continuous operation. Extreme ON-OFF switching should be avoided. Cycling operating mode should only be via control signal (0/10V analog input or PWM input), not by cycling the power supply. The fan should not be operated in an explosive atmosphere.
  • Speed Control: Speed can be controlled by linear voltage input (0-10V), current input (4-20mA), or PWM input (PWM duty cycle 0-100%). A hysteresis of approximately 200mV is implemented to prevent rapid cycling between standby and run modes. The input characteristic can be factory-adjusted for sensitivity or attenuation.
  • Protective Features:
    • Short-circuit protection: Motor and electronic controller are protected by a built-in fuse.
    • Locked-rotor protection: The motor switches off electronically if the rotor is blocked and restarts automatically after de-blocking.
    • Mains under voltage: The motor runs with degraded performance if mains voltage falls below nominal, switching off electronically below 320V and restarting automatically when voltage returns to normal.
    • Over temperature protection: An internally connected thermal protector protects electronics and motor.
  • NFC/RFID Wireless Communication: The fan has an integrated NFC/RFID tag (ISO/IEC 15693) for advanced custom functionality configuration. The aluminum cover must be removed to access the tag.
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
    • Alarm Relay Diagnostics: Alarm relay contact OPEN on ERROR conditions (rotor locked >10s, motor winding overheating, power module overheating, DC link undervoltage, internal communication error). The alarm relay becomes operable 3-4 seconds after switching on line voltage, changing to CLOSE if no malfunction is detected.
    • Multi-Colour LED Diagnostics:
      • GREEN STATUS: No malfunction detected.
      • ORANGE STATUS: Missing control signal (if 'Emergency operation' is active), electronics/motor/power module high temperature, or break active.
      • RED STATUS: Rotor locked, motor overheating, power module overheating, DC link undervoltage error, or internal communication error.
    • If fan failure (short/open in electronics/windings) is detected, do not attempt to repair; replace the fan or return it to the manufacturer.

Maintenance Features

  • General Maintenance: Before any maintenance or repair, the unit must be securely disconnected from all power supply sources. Only qualified and authorized personnel should open, maintain, or repair the unit.
  • Cleaning: Regular inspection and cleaning are necessary to prevent imbalance from dirt buildup. Blades must be cleaned carefully to avoid damage. Never use high-pressure cleaners or water sprays. Wet cleaning under voltage can lead to electric shock. Do not use aggressive paint solvent cleaning agents; use a moist cloth. If water penetrates the motor, windings must dry before restarting. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be done by children without supervision.
  • Storage: Store fans in original packaging in a dry, weather-protected area, away from extreme heat and cold. A maximum of one year of storage is recommended. Inspect bearings for proper operation after long storage periods.
  • Transport: Transport units only in their original packaging. When transporting fans with wood spacers on pallets, be careful with cables. When unpacking, grip the fan to the protection grill, avoiding force on cables. When transporting fans mounted on final units, ensure they are properly secured and do not touch other devices.
  • Long-term Shutdown: If an installed fan is switched OFF for a long period in a humid atmosphere, it should be switched ON for a minimum of two hours every month to remove condensed moisture inside the motor.
  • Environmental Compliance: The fan uses environment-friendly, recyclable materials according to RoHS2 (2011/65/EU) and REACH (EC1907/2006). Disposal must be professional and environmentally friendly, complying with local regulations. The product design allows for simple decomposition of components, which are marked for easy handling at end-of-life.
  • EMC Compliance: Compliance with EMC standards must be established on the final appliance, as mounting situations can affect EMC properties.
