  If the Hills Control Panel's code pad appears dead with no lights or sounds, you can try the following: * Measure the output voltage at the Aux Pwr (+) terminals; it should be above 12.8 volt dc. * Disconnect all devices connected to the Aux Pwr (+) terminal, leaving only the code pad connected. * Check for short circuits on devices connected to Aux Pwr (+) terminals. * Verify that AC power and the battery are correctly connected to the panel. * Check the wiring and connections at both the code pad and the panel.

  An 'Over Current Fault' on your Hills Control Panel typically indicates a partial short circuit on the Aux Pwr, Smoke power, Horn Speaker, Strobe, or Screamer. Removing the short from the Aux Pwr or Smoke Pwr will immediately resolve the over-current condition. If the short is on the horn, Strobe, or Screamer, you must put the panel into alarm once the fault has been removed to clear the over-current condition.

  If the Zones LEDs on your Hills Control Panel are flashing rapidly, and arming/disarming doesn't clear it, a zone tamper condition has likely occurred. Press '1' then '7' to reset the condition and clear the rapid flashing LEDs. Note that if the zone is still in tamper, pressing '1' then '7' will only clear the condition temporarily.

  If the code pad lights on your Hills Control Panel appear to be working, but the keys don't function, ensure that the user code you are entering is programmed into the system and is designated as an Arm/Disarm code. Also, verify that you have set the code pad No and Area No. This is configured using feature ¹ 94 in the section 'Programming the code pad'.

What does it mean when the Fire LED is flashing rapidly on my Hills Reliance 8 Control Panel?

  If the Fire LED on your Hills Control Panel flashes rapidly, measure the voltage at the Aux Pwr (+) terminal; it should be above 12.8 Volt DC. Also, check that the data wire is connected correctly at both ends. The smoke detector circuit may have gone into alarm, in which case you should press '1' then '7' to reset it. You can also try connecting code pads one at a time to see if the problem is related to a specific code pad.

  If you are unable to write custom messages to multiple LCD code pads on your Hills Control Panel system, ensure you have individually set the code pad No(s) and Area No(s) for each code pad, using feature ¹ 94 in the section 'Programming the Code Pad'. You may also need to enter and then exit program mode. Alternatively, enter the custom message menu, view any message, and then exit. See feature ¹ 92 in the NX148 LCD Code Pad installation manual.

  Siren Trouble on your Hills Control Panel indicates that the Horn Speaker is open/short circuit or not connected. If a horn speaker is not connected to the panel, place a 3K3 resistor across the Bell output to disable Siren Trouble Monitoring.
