Overview

This document is a user and care guide for the Hisense Dehumidifier, model DH5021KP1W. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring safe and efficient use of the appliance.

Function Description

The Hisense Dehumidifier is designed to reduce the relative humidity in indoor spaces, helping to prevent mold, mildew, and other moisture-related issues. It operates by drawing in moist air, passing it over a cooling coil to condense the moisture, and then releasing drier air back into the room. The collected water can be managed through various draining options, including a removable bucket or continuous drainage via a hose. The dehumidifier is intended for indoor, residential use only and is not recommended for commercial applications. It features an automatic de-icing function that temporarily shuts off the compressor in low-temperature conditions to prevent ice buildup, ensuring continuous operation.

Usage Features

The dehumidifier offers multiple modes and settings to customize its operation based on user needs and environmental conditions.

Control Panel: The control panel, which may vary slightly between models, includes buttons for Timer, Mode, Power, Fan, Clean Filter, and Pump (for pump function models). It also features a digital display that shows relative humidity or time.

Starting/Stopping the Dehumidifier: To start the dehumidifier, plug it into a grounded three-prong outlet and press the POWER button. To turn it off, press the POWER button again. It is crucial to ensure the dehumidifier is upright for at least 2 hours before initial use. If power is interrupted, the controls will revert to previous settings upon restoration.

Humidity Level: The desired humidity level can be set using the Plus or Minus buttons. The digital display will flash the desired humidity for 5 seconds before returning to show the actual room humidity. Humidity can be set between 30% and 80% Relative Humidity in Manual Set mode. In Auto Dry and Continuous modes, the humidity level is set automatically. The displayed humidity is for reference, and a hygrometer should be used for accurate readings.

Desired Humidity-Mode: The dehumidifier offers three operating modes:

  • Auto Dry: In this mode, the dehumidifier operates in dry mode only, with the fan speed set automatically and the desired humidity fixed at 50%.
  • Continuous: The dehumidifier operates continuously, and the fan speed can be adjusted. The humidity level cannot be adjusted in this mode.
  • Manual Set: The dehumidifier operates at the selected fan speed to reach the set humidity level. The compressor and fan will turn on if the room humidity is higher than the set level and turn off when it is lower.

Fan Speed: The FAN button allows users to select between LOW, HIGH, or AUTO fan speeds. LOW speed achieves the desired humidity with a lower sound level, HIGH speed reaches the desired humidity more quickly, and AUTO speed maintains the set humidity at a normal operating speed.

Timer Function: The timer can be set for a 30-minute to 24-hour delay to turn the dehumidifier off or on. To set the timer for turning off, the dehumidifier must be on. Press the TIMER button, and the display will flash the remaining time. Use the Plus or Minus buttons to adjust the delay. To set the timer for turning on, the dehumidifier must be off. Press the TIMER button, and the display will flash the remaining time. Use the Plus or Minus buttons to adjust the delay. The timer indicator light will turn off if the program is cleared by pressing TIMER again while the remaining time is displayed. It's important to empty the water bucket before setting the timer function, as a full bucket will stop dehumidification.

Empty Bucket Light: This light illuminates when the water bucket is full or not properly installed. When the light is on, the fan and compressor will stop operating. Users must empty and re-install the bucket correctly for the dehumidifier to resume operation.

Normal Sounds: During normal operation, users may hear compressor sounds (which can be loud), air movement from the fan, and clicking sounds when the dehumidifier or compressor turns on/off or when the automatic shut-off switch is engaged.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and efficient performance of the Hisense Dehumidifier.

Cleaning the Air Filter: The air filter is removable and should be checked every two weeks for cleaning. A clean filter helps remove dust, lint, and other particles from the air, which is crucial for optimal operating efficiency.

  1. Turn off and unplug the dehumidifier.
  2. Remove the air intake grill.
  3. Take out the air filter.
  4. Clean the air filter using a vacuum cleaner or wash it in warm water with a mild detergent if it's very dirty.
  5. Reinstall the air filter and the air intake grill.
  6. Turn on the dehumidifier. Do not wash the air filter in a dishwasher or use chemical cleaners. The filter must be completely air-dried before reinstallation to ensure maximum operating efficiency. The Clean Filter indicator light will remain on for 180 hours or until the Clean Filter button is pressed to reset the filter monitor.

Cleaning the Dehumidifier Exterior: To clean the exterior, turn off and unplug the dehumidifier. Dust the surface of the unit with a soft cloth or a dusting attachment of a vacuum cleaner.

Cleaning the Water Bucket: Every few weeks, rinse the inside of the water bucket with a mild detergent to prevent the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria. Ensure the water level float is snapped correctly in place, as it is crucial for the EMPTY BUCKET light and the dehumidifier's operation.

Water Filter Cleaning (for pump function models only): For models with an internal pump, the water filter needs to be cleaned every 3 months.

  1. Unplug the unit.
  2. Remove the bucket.
  3. Remove the plastic nut, sealing bolt, and the filter. Place a draining dish underneath to catch any water.
  4. Clean the water filter with a soft brush. If it's very dirty, wash it in water and a neutral detergent.
  5. Re-install the filter, filter sealing bolt, and plastic nut, ensuring the filter is in the correct position.
  6. Re-install the bucket. Take care not to injure hands during disassembly and re-assembly. If the unit will not be used for an extended period, clean the water filter and drain the dehumidifier completely before storage.

Draining the Dehumidifier: The dehumidifier offers three options for water drainage:

  1. Bucket Draining: For occasional use or when a floor drain is unavailable, simply slide out the bucket, lift it by the handle, and pour the water into a sink or tub. After emptying, fold down the handle and reinstall the bucket. If the Empty Bucket light is on, the dehumidifier will not operate until the bucket is emptied and re-installed correctly.
  2. Gravity Draining: For continuous operation, a garden hose (sold separately) can be attached to the drain hose connector on the side of the unit. The hose should have an inner diameter greater than 1/2" and be designed for North American garden hoses (3/4" diameter straight thread with a pitch of 11.5 threads per inch). The hose must be securely attached to prevent leaks, and its outlet should be at least 5.5" lower than the connector and lie flat in a floor drain to ensure proper drainage.
  3. PUMP-Drain (for pump function models only): This feature allows water to be pumped horizontally or vertically up to 16 feet (487.68cm) away, suitable for draining into a floor drain, out a window, or other suitable locations. The included 16-foot hose is connected to the drain hose connector on the side of the unit. The PUMP button activates the pump system. If the pump light flashes, it indicates a malfunction, possibly due to an incorrectly connected or bent drain hose. To disconnect the drain hose, either push the "PUSH" button on the connector through the side hole and pull the hose out, or slide out the bucket, pinch the "PUSH" button, and pull the hose out. It is recommended to cut off a 1" short piece of the drain hose after 3 disconnections to ensure no leakage.
