This document describes the Hitachi R-SF48FMH, R-SF45FMS, and R-SF45FMH multi-door refrigerator-freezers, designed for household use. These models are made in Japan and feature six doors.
Function Description
The Hitachi multi-door refrigerator-freezer offers advanced features for food preservation, energy efficiency, and user convenience.
Aero-care Vege. Compartment (Platinum Catalyst Vegetable Sleep Preservation)
This compartment utilizes a platinum catalyst to preserve the freshness and nutrients of vegetables. It generates carbon dioxide to suppress the consumption of nutrients, thereby maintaining freshness.
Vacuum Compartment (Platinum Catalyst Vacuum Sleep Preservation)
This compartment maintains an approximate pressure of 0.8 hPa (lower than atmospheric pressure) to suppress food oxidation and preserve freshness and nutrients. The platinum catalyst technology, also used in the Vegetable Compartment, helps prevent freshness reduction.
Energy Saving & Large Capacity
The refrigerator incorporates various energy-saving technologies, including "Frost Recycle Cooling," to reduce power consumption. An "Energy Saving" mode is available for further energy conservation. Structurally, vacuum insulation materials are used to achieve thinner walls, allowing for larger internal capacities. Shelves, pockets, and slide cases are designed to be as spacious as possible to maximize food storage.
Triple Power Deodorizing Effect
A combination of three types of deodorizing materials effectively captures and eliminates four major odor components (sulfur, nitrogen, aldehyde, and acidic odors) from the refrigerator. The deodorizing filter also restricts the activity of bacteria it collects, providing a sterile filtration effect. Testing by the Boken Quality Evaluation Institute confirmed a 99% sterilization effect after 24 hours for bacteria collected by the filter. This effect applies to the filter itself and not necessarily to the entire refrigerator or all foods.

Refrigerant
The refrigerator uses R600a (isobutane), a flammable refrigerant. Hydrocarbons are also used in insulation materials. These materials are non-CFC, environmentally friendly, and have a minimal impact on global warming and ozone depletion.
Usage Features
Initial Setup
- Placement: Install on a sturdy, level floor, away from direct sunlight and heat, and in a well-ventilated area. Maintain at least 5 cm clearance above and 1 cm on the sides for heat dissipation.
- Leveling: Use the adjustable mounts at the front bottom corners to level the refrigerator. A special tool is provided for this.
- Power Connection: Use a dedicated 220-240V, 10A or more wall outlet. Ensure the power cord is not wedged.
- Initial Cooling: It may take 4 to 24 hours for the refrigerator to cool completely, especially in hot weather or with a large amount of food. Avoid placing ice cream or perishable foods inside until fully cooled.
- First-time Ice Making: Perform "Ice Maker Cleaning" before making ice for the first time or after a week or more of disuse.
Control Panel
The control panel allows adjustment of temperature settings for each compartment, activation of rapid cooling/freezing, ice making settings, and energy-saving modes.
- Display: Indicator lamps show current settings (e.g., "Fridge," "Freezer," "Veg," "Quick," "On," "Off," "Water," "Save," "Door"). Lamps turn off after 40 seconds of inactivity to save energy, except for specific mode indicators.
- Button Lock: A function to lock the control panel to prevent accidental operations or misuse by children.
- Door Alarm: Sounds if any door is left open for 1 minute or more, with blinking indicators on the display. Volume can be adjusted (Standard, Louder, Sound off).
Compartment-Specific Usage
- Refrigerator Compartment: Shelves and pockets are height-adjustable. Rapid cooling is available for quick chilling of food. Avoid placing high-moisture foods near the cold air blowout port to prevent freezing.
- Vacuum Compartment: Features a handle to unlock and release the vacuum. A "hissing" sound indicates vacuum release. Foods should be stored in sealed bags or containers. Not suitable for low-temperature sensitive vegetables like eggplant or cucumber.
- Ice Compartment: Automatic ice maker. Water supply indicator ("Water" lamp) lights up when water is low. "Quick Ice Making" reduces ice-making time. "Ice Maker Cleaning" function ensures hygiene. Only potable water should be used.
- Freezer Compartment (Upper and Lower): Provides three layers of storage. The upper freezer has an aluminum tray for rapid freezing. The lower freezer has three cases for organized storage. Avoid storing 500ml PET bottles in the slimline slide case as they may expand and get stuck when frozen.
- Vegetable Compartment: Divided into upper space, tall storage compartment, and lower space. "Veg" mode provides cooler temperatures for enhanced preservation. Avoid storing low-temperature sensitive vegetables in "Veg" mode.
Maintenance Features
General Maintenance
- Power Plug & Refrigerator Back/Floor: Clean once or twice a year. Unplug the refrigerator, check for cord damage or overheating, then wipe dust with a dry cloth.
- Door Surface: Wipe with a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water once a month.
- Shelves, Pockets, Cases: Wipe with a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water every three months.
- Door Gaskets: Wipe thoroughly once a month.
- Liquid Receivers: Wipe off any collected liquid or dirt once a month.
- Cleaning Agents: Avoid using alkaline or acidic detergents, scrubbing brushes, benzine, thinner, alcohol, or bleach as they may damage or discolor surfaces.
Specific Compartment Maintenance
- Vacuum Compartment: Clean once a month. Remove the vacuum case and gasket, wipe parts with a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water (avoid detergents), dry naturally, and reattach.
- Ice Maker Cleaning: Perform when making ice for the first time or after a week or more of disuse. This involves closing all doors, holding the "Ice Maker" button for 5 seconds, and allowing the cleaning cycle to run for about 4 minutes. After cleaning, wipe any water from the ice case.
- Water Supply Container: Clean once a week. Remove the container, lid, gasket, and water filter. Wash all parts with a soft sponge and water (avoid detergents), dry the filter to prevent mold, and reassemble. Replace the water filter every 3-4 years.
- Ice Tray: Clean once or twice a year. Stop ice making, remove the ice tray from the ice compartment, empty and rinse it with water (avoid sponges/cleansers), and reattach.
