Overview

The Hoover Deluxe Hand/Mop Steam Cleaner is a versatile cleaning appliance designed for household use, capable of functioning as both a handheld steamer and a mop for various surfaces. It utilizes steam to clean, offering a chemical-free cleaning solution.

Function Description:

The steam cleaner's primary function is to generate and direct steam for cleaning. It can be used in two main configurations:

  1. Handheld Steamer: In this mode, the cleaner is used for targeted cleaning of smaller areas, hard-to-reach spaces, and various household surfaces. It comes with several attachments to optimize cleaning for different tasks.
  2. Mop: By attaching a telescoping handle and a mop pad, the cleaner transforms into a mop, suitable for cleaning floors and walls. The mop pad includes a sponge to aid in cleaning and drying.

The device operates by heating cold water in a tank to produce steam. A control knob allows users to adjust the steam intensity. An indicator light signals when the cleaner is preheated and ready for use, and it flashes during the warm-up period.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Water Capacity: The manual does not specify the exact water tank capacity in liters or ounces, but it emphasizes filling with cold water only.
  • Temperature: The nozzle temperature reaches 212°F (100°C), indicating high-temperature steam for effective cleaning.
  • Power: The manual implies electrical operation, requiring connection to an electrical outlet. It warns against using extension cords and emphasizes unplugging before servicing.
  • Model and Serial Number: These are located on the bottom of the steam cleaner and are crucial for warranty service and parts ordering.

Usage Features:

  • Filling the Tank: The tank is filled with cold water by unscrewing a cap and pouring water into the opening. The fill lines on the cap indicate the maximum fill level.
  • Power On/Off: The cleaner is turned on and off via a knob, which also serves to adjust steam intensity.
  • Preheating: After turning on, the cleaner requires a warm-up period (approximately 30 seconds) until the indicator light stops flashing and remains steady, signaling it's ready for use.
  • Shoulder Strap: A shoulder strap is included for convenient carrying during handheld use. It attaches to the cleaner's handle with a clip.
  • Attachments:
    • Jet Nozzle: Concentrates steam for increased cleaning power in small, hard-to-reach spaces or where concentrated steam is needed. It attaches by aligning a tab with a slot and twisting clockwise.
    • Brushes: Two brushes (purple for kitchen, white for bathroom) can be attached to the jet nozzle for scrubbing. They slide over the nozzle tip and twist to tighten.
    • Triangular Brush: Used for larger areas like walls, floors, and screens. A cloth can be placed over it for more even cleaning and drying.
    • Turbo Nozzle: Allows adjustment for a narrower or wider spray, suitable for mirrors or windows. It pushes straight into a hole on the front of the cleaner.
    • Mop Pad: Attaches to the cleaner for floor and wall cleaning when used with the telescoping handle. It aligns with a tab and slot and twists clockwise to tighten.
  • Telescoping Handle: Extends in three sections (twist and pull to unlock/lock) to convert the cleaner into a mop. It attaches to an opening on the cleaner body and locks in place.
  • Cord Management: The power cord can be coiled loosely around the handle and secured through a slot on the handle grip.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always read all instructions before use.
    • Do not use outdoors.
    • Close supervision is necessary when used near children.
    • Do not allow the cleaner to run unattended.
    • Fill with cold water only.
    • Do not use without the tank and/or filter.
    • Do not operate without water in the tank.
    • Avoid using with flammable or combustible materials.
    • Do not direct steam at people, animals, or electrical devices.
    • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, feet, and all body parts away from openings.
    • Use extra care on stairs.
    • Do not block openings.
    • Do not pull or carry by cord.
    • Always disconnect before servicing.
    • Unplug when not in use and turn off all controls.
    • Do not unplug by pulling the cord; grasp the plug.
    • Do not handle with wet hands.
    • Do not expose to freezing temperatures.
    • Do not use with a damaged cord or plug.
    • Test on waxed surfaces in a hidden area.
    • Warm cold glass surfaces from a distance of 4"-6" to prevent thermal shock.
    • Do not operate the steam cleaner with an empty water tank.
    • Fill with cold water only; do not fill with hot water.
    • Do not mix cleaning detergents in the water tank. For stubborn dirt, pre-treat with detergent.
    • If steam is being used at the highest setting, do not continue for more than 10 minutes.
    • Do not run the steam cleaner for a long successive time (not more than 1 hour at a time).
    • Do not store the steam cleaner with water in the water tank.

Maintenance Features:

  • Mop Pad Removal/Replacement: The mop pad is removed by pressing tabs on the sides and twisting counter-clockwise.
  • Cord Storage: The power cord can be wrapped around the cord hook on the back of the cleaner for storage.
  • Nozzle Cleaning Pin: A pin is provided to clean the nozzle hole if it becomes obstructed.
  • Calcium Filter: The cleaner is equipped with a calcium filter that reduces scale buildup. The filter cartridge is located underneath the water tank. It should be changed once a year for optimal performance. Replacement filters can be purchased from Hoover Factory Service Centers or online. To remove, press outward on tabs and pull out. To replace, insert the flat end toward the back wall and snap in place.
  • Storage: Store in a dry place. Do not expose to freezing temperatures.
  • Troubleshooting: A dedicated section provides solutions for common problems like the indicator light not being lit, no steam output, steam coming from the safety valve, nozzle coming off, or inability to install the mop handle.

The Hoover Deluxe Hand/Mop Steam Cleaner is designed for ease of use and effective cleaning across various household applications, emphasizing safety and proper maintenance for longevity.
