Function Description

The Hoover HMC440C3H-80 is a versatile microwave oven designed for various cooking tasks, offering microwave, grill, convection, and combination cooking modes, as well as automatic cooking programs and defrost functions. The appliance features modern electronic control to adjust cooking parameters, ensuring optimal results for different food types.

Microwave Cooking: This primary function is used for cooking and reheating vegetables, potatoes, rice, fish, and meat. Users can set the desired microwave power level (ranging from 100W to 900W) and cooking time. The oven provides specific power level recommendations for various foods, such as boiling water and reheating (900W), cooking mushrooms and shellfish (700W), cooking rice and soup (450W), defrosting (300W), and melting chocolate or softening ice cream (100W).

Grill Cooking: The grill function is ideal for preparing thin pieces of meat and fish, providing a browned crust. The default grill power is set to the third level, with options to select levels 1, 2, or 3. Users can adjust the cooking time, with a maximum duration of 90 minutes.

Convection Cooking (Hot Air): This mode allows for cooking meals in a similar way to a conventional oven, without activating the microwave. It is recommended to preheat the oven before placing food inside. The default temperature is 180 degrees Celsius, and users can select temperatures between 50 and 230 degrees Celsius. The maximum cooking time for convection is 5 hours.

Grill Fan Cooking: This function combines grilling with a fan to roast meals evenly and provide a brown crust. The default temperature is 180 degrees Celsius, with a selectable range from 100 to 230 degrees Celsius. The maximum cooking time is 5 hours.

Convection + Bottom Heat Cooking: This mode is suitable for roasting large pieces of meat, pizza, and similar items, utilizing both hot air and bottom heating elements. The default temperature is 180 degrees Celsius, with a selectable range from 100 to 230 degrees Celsius. The maximum cooking time is 5 hours.

Double Grill Cooking: Designed for roasting big pieces of meat and pizza, this function uses two grill elements. The default grill power is the third level, with a maximum cooking time of 90 minutes.

Combination Cooking Modes: The oven offers several combination modes to enhance cooking versatility:

  • Microwave + Hot Air: This mode quickly roasts meals by combining microwave energy with hot air.
  • Microwave + Grill with Fan: This function provides both microwave cooking and grilling with a fan, ensuring even roasting and a brown crust.
  • Microwave + Grill: This mode cooks meals quickly and gives them a brown crust (au gratin) by activating both microwave and grill elements simultaneously. The default power is level 3, with selectable power levels (700W, 450W, 300W, 100W).
  • Microwave + Convection Cooking: This mode combines microwave energy with convection heat for efficient cooking. The default temperature is 180 degrees Celsius, with a selectable range from 50 to 230 degrees Celsius. The default power is 300W, with selectable power levels (700W, 450W, 300W, 100W).
  • Microwave + Grill Fan Cooking: This mode combines microwave energy with grill fan cooking. The default temperature is 180 degrees Celsius, with a selectable range from 100 to 230 degrees Celsius. The default power is 300W, with selectable power levels (700W, 450W, 300W, 100W).
  • Microwave + Bottom + Convection Cooking: This mode combines microwave energy with bottom heat and convection. The default temperature is 180 degrees Celsius, with a selectable range from 100 to 230 degrees Celsius. The default power is 300W, with selectable power levels (700W, 450W, 300W, 100W).
  • Microwave + Double Grill Cooking: This mode combines microwave energy with double grill cooking. The default power is 300W, with selectable power levels (700W, 450W, 300W, 100W).

Auto Cook Programs: The oven includes 15 automatic cooking programs (P01-P13 for cooking, d01-d02 for defrosting). Users only need to select the program and set the weight, as the power, time, and temperature are pre-set. Some programs (marked with *) include a preheating phase, during which the cooking time pauses and a preheating symbol blinks. Other programs (marked with **) only use the microwave function.

Defrost Function: Two automatic defrost programs (d01 for meat, poultry, and fish; d02 for bread, cake, and fruit) are available. If a beep sounds during defrosting, users are instructed to turn the food and press the start/pause button to continue the program.

Preheating Function: This function can be activated for Convection, Grill fan, Bottom-convection, MW-convection, MW-Grill fan, and Microwave-Bottom-convection modes. The preheating icon appears on the display. Once the set temperature is reached, an alarm sounds, and the reheat icon flashes. The microwave function is switched off during preheating.

Clock Setting: The oven allows users to set the current time (between 00:00 and 23:59). The clock can also be hidden from the display if desired.

Lock-out Function for Children: A child lock feature prevents unintended operation. It can be activated and deactivated by pressing specific buttons simultaneously.

Control Oven Lamp and Turntable Tray: During microwave, grill, and combination cooking, users can switch the oven lamp and turntable tray working conditions (rotating/not rotating, lamp on/off) by pressing specific buttons.

Usage Features

Control Panel: The oven is operated via a control panel featuring a function knob, power/weight button, quickly preheating button, on/off button, temperature/automenu button, clock button, start/pause button, and a selection knob. The display shows cooking parameters, time, and indicators for selected functions.

Utensil Compatibility: The manual provides a detailed guide on suitable and unsuitable utensils for microwave oven use. Microwave-safe items include browning dishes (with specific clearance), dinnerware, glass jars (lids removed), heat-resistant oven glassware (no metallic trim), oven cooking bags (slits for steam), paper plates/cups (short-term use), paper towels (for reheating and fat absorption), parchment paper, microwave-safe plastic containers (vented if tightly closed), plastic wrap (to retain moisture, not touching food), microwave-safe thermometers, and wax paper. Materials to be avoided include aluminum trays, food cartons with metal handles, metal or metal-trimmed utensils, metal twist ties, paper bags, plastic foam, and wood, as these can cause arcing, fire, or contamination.

Cooking Time Adjustment: The selection knob allows for precise adjustment of cooking times, with step quantities varying based on the duration: 1 second for 0-1 minute, 10 seconds for 1-5 minutes, 30 seconds for 5-15 minutes, 1 minute for 15-60 minutes, and 5 minutes for over 60 minutes.

Display Specifications:

  • If no operation occurs for 10 seconds during setting (except initial clock setting), the oven automatically confirms the setting.
  • During program setting, adjustments are confirmed after 3 seconds.
  • The oven lamp remains lit when the door is open.
  • If the oven is in a setting or pause state (including auto menu and defrost programs) and no operation occurs for 15 minutes, it will enter an off state.
  • If the oven door is opened during cooking, the start/pause button must be pressed to resume cooking.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the oven's performance and lifespan.

  • The oven cavity should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth after each use.
  • Accessories should be cleaned in soapy water.
  • The door frame, seal, and surrounding parts require careful cleaning with a damp cloth.
  • Harsh abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers should not be used on the oven door glass to prevent scratching and potential shattering.
  • A cleaning tip suggests placing half a lemon in a bowl with 300ml of water and heating it on 100% microwave power for 10 minutes to easily clean cavity walls, then wiping with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Failure to maintain cleanliness can lead to deterioration of surfaces, affecting the appliance's life and potentially creating a hazardous situation.

Grounding Installation: The appliance must be properly grounded to reduce the risk of electric shock. Users are advised to consult a qualified electrician or serviceman if grounding instructions are unclear. If an extension cord is necessary, it must be a grounding-type 3-wire cord with an electrical rating at least as great as the appliance's rating, and arranged to prevent tripping hazards.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Oven not starting: Check if the power cord is plugged in tightly, if a fuse has blown or circuit breaker has tripped, or if there is an issue with the outlet.
  • Oven not heating: Ensure the door is closed properly.
  • TV reception interference: This is normal during microwave operation, similar to other small electrical appliances.
  • Dim oven light: Normal during low-power microwave cooking.
  • Steam accumulating on door/hot air from vents: Normal during cooking, as steam escapes from vents or condenses on cooler surfaces.
  • Oven started accidentally with no food: This is dangerous and forbidden.

Customer Assistance Service: In case of operating anomalies, users should switch off the appliance and contact the Assistance Service. It is important to provide the product code and serial number (a 16-character code starting with '3') to help technicians and avoid unnecessary callout charges.

WEEE Directive Compliance: The product should not be disposed of with household waste. Instead, it must be sent to designated WEEE collecting points for separate collection and treatment, in accordance with the Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive.
