The HOOVER SteamVac™ V2™ Deep Cleaner is an easy-to-use appliance designed for household cleaning of carpets, bare floors, and upholstery. Its primary function is to clean carpet fibers by applying hot tap water and a cleaning solution, then extracting the dirty solution.
The deep cleaner operates by combining hot tap water from its clean water tank with a cleaning solution from an attached detergent container. This mixture is then dispensed onto the surface to be cleaned. The machine features agitator brushes that scrub the carpet or floor fibers, loosening dirt and stains. A powerful suction system then extracts the dirty solution into a separate recovery tank. This process effectively cleans and helps to dry the treated surfaces. The deep cleaner includes a Wash/Rinse switch, allowing users to easily switch between cleaning with a detergent/water mix and rinsing with water only, which helps remove detergent residue and leaves carpets looking fresher. An automatic shut-off mechanism is incorporated to stop suction when the recovery tank is full, indicated by a noticeable reduction in suction and a higher-pitched motor sound, preventing overflow.
The SteamVac™ V2™ is designed for convenience and versatility. It features a handle release pedal for lowering the handle to an operating position, allowing for easy maneuverability. For transport, the handle can be locked in an upright position, and the cleaner tilted back on its wheels. The clean water tank and detergent container are easily accessible for filling, and the recovery tank is simple to empty and clean.
The deep cleaner offers two agitator brush settings: "ON" for cleaning carpets and bare floors, and "OFF" for when brushing is not desired. This allows for customized cleaning based on the surface and desired intensity.
For carpet cleaning, the recommended process involves thorough vacuuming beforehand, filling the clean water and detergent tanks, and then applying the solution with slow forward and backward wet strokes, followed by dry strokes to extract moisture. Overlapping strokes by one inch are recommended to prevent streaking. For heavily soiled areas, repeating the wet and dry strokes is advised, but users are cautioned not to oversaturate the carpet, limiting to no more than four wet strokes per area and always ending with dry strokes to aid in faster drying.
When cleaning bare floors, an optional bare floor attachment can be used. This attachment is placed on the front of the nozzle, and the cleaning process is similar to carpet cleaning, involving wet and dry strokes with the appropriate bare floor cleaner. Users are specifically advised not to use the deep cleaner on hardwood floors and to remove the attachment for rinsing after use.
The deep cleaner also supports the use of various tools for specialized cleaning tasks. The hose and solution tube can be attached to the machine, allowing for the use of tools like the SpinScrub™ hand tool, stair/upholstery nozzle, and utility tool. These tools connect securely to the hose.
For cleaning carpeted stairs, the tool is held about an inch above the carpet for pre-spraying, then positioned against the riser for wet strokes, followed by dry strokes. Overlapping strokes by half an inch are recommended. Similar to carpet cleaning, users are advised not to oversaturate and to end with dry strokes. Extra caution is emphasized when cleaning on stairs, and the deep cleaner should not be placed on the stairs.
Upholstery cleaning requires checking the fabric's cleaning code ("W" or "W/S" only) and testing for colorfastness. The tool is gently pressed onto the fabric, and solution is applied with slow pulls, followed by additional strokes without solution to remove moisture. For corners or creases, the tool can be lifted slightly while pressing the trigger. Crisscrossing strokes are recommended for heavily soiled areas. Users are warned against over-wetting upholstery, limiting to no more than two passes with solution or rinse over any one area.
Maintaining the SteamVac™ V2™ is straightforward. After each use, it is crucial to empty both the clean water and recovery tanks, rinse them with clear water, and allow them to air dry. The recovery tank lid should also be rinsed and air-dried. Any unused detergent can be stored in its container.
The deep cleaner is equipped with removable brushes for easy cleaning. To clean the brushes, they can be pulled firmly from the cleaner housing and rinsed under running water. When replacing them, posts on both ends of the brush assembly must align with slots in the cleaner housing, and a square post must align with a square hole, with a slight rotation if needed to snap them into place.
The nozzle can be removed for cleaning if lint or debris becomes lodged. This involves tilting the cleaner back, lifting the rear edge of the nozzle, and sliding it off. For reattachment, tabs on the nozzle must align with holes in the cleaner, and the nozzle must be slid on completely and pressed down to secure it. Proper nozzle positioning is essential for the recovery tank to fit correctly.
The filter screen located inside the recovery tank and on the bottom of the cleaner should be regularly checked and cleaned to ensure optimal suction. If brushes rotate slowly, the bottom filter screen should be cleaned.
The tool cover is designed with a breakaway feature, allowing it to snap free if pushed open too far. It can be reattached by aligning the hinges with holes on the sides of the tool storage area. After using tools, the suction hose should be drained by turning the deep cleaner ON and holding the nozzle up without pressing the trigger, then disconnecting the hose and solution tube. The solution tube can be drained by placing its round end in a sink and raising the nozzle above the head while pressing the trigger. The tool caddy can be removed and hung for storage.
The motor bearings are pre-lubricated for the life of the motor, and no additional lubricant should be added, as it could cause damage. Before storing the deep cleaner, it should be completely dry, especially the brushes and underside, and should not be stored with a full clean water tank.
