The Hoover SteamVac Widepath TurboPOWER is an easy-to-use deep cleaner designed for household use, specifically for deep cleaning carpets, rugs, carpeted stairs, and upholstery, as well as scrubbing bare floors.
Function Description:
The deep cleaner operates by applying hot tap water and a cleaning solution to surfaces. It features six rotating brushes that work to deep clean carpets and scrub bare floors. For carpet and upholstery cleaning, it uses Hoover Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, and for bare floors, it uses Hoover Bare Floor Cleaner. The machine is designed to pick up dirty solution into a recovery tank. It includes an automatic shut-off mechanism that engages when the recovery tank is full, indicated by a yellow float disk rising to the top of the tank lid and a noticeable increase in motor pitch, at which point suction will be reduced. The deep cleaner automatically diverts suction from the floor nozzle to the tool when the handle is raised from the operating to the upright position.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Voltage: Operates only at the voltage specified on the data plate on the back of the cleaner. Requires plugging into a properly grounded outlet.
- Detergent: Specifically formulated Hoover detergents (Anionic and Nonionic Surfactants) are recommended.
- Solution Tank Capacity: The clean solution tank holds 1 gallon of cleaning solution.
- Recovery Tank Capacity: The recovery tank holds dirty solution, with an automatic shut-off engaging when full (approximately 1 gallon or less, never to exceed 1/4 inch in depth for spills).
- Brush Speed Selector: Offers three settings: HI (for normal cleaning of carpet and bare floors), LO (for gentle cleaning of carpets and bare floors), and OFF (when brushing is not desired, e.g., picking up liquid spills).
- Warranty: Comes with a Full Two Year Warranty for domestic use, covering original defects in material and workmanship. For appliances purchased outside the US/Canada, a limited two-year warranty covers parts only.
Usage Features:
- Assembly: Involves attaching the upper handle, hose holder, and tool holder, and then positioning the clean solution tank.
- Handle Release Pedal: Allows the handle to be lowered to the operating (floor) position. The handle "floats" for convenient operation and does not lock into a single position.
- ON/OFF Pedal: Used to turn the deep cleaner on and off.
- Cleaning Mode Indicator: A green window indicates either "FLOOR" (when the handle is in the operating position) or "TOOL" (when the handle is in the upright position).
- Transport: The deep cleaner can be tilted back on its wheels and pushed forward when the handle is in the upright and locked position.
- Filling Tanks: The clean solution tank is removed by pressing down on its handle and pulling forward. The cap doubles as a measuring cup for detergent. Hot tap water is used to fill the tank to the fill line.
- Emptying Tanks: The recovery tank is removed by raising its handle to unlock it, then lifting it from the deep cleaner. The lid is removed by lowering the handle completely toward the back of the tank and lifting off the lid.
- Carpet Cleaning:
- Requires thorough vacuuming beforehand.
- Speed selector can be set to LO for gentle cleaning or HI for normal cleaning.
- Cleaning starts at the end of the room farthest from the door or sink.
- Wet strokes (squeezing trigger while pushing forward and pulling back) are followed by dry strokes (without squeezing trigger).
- Overlapping strokes by 1 inch helps prevent streaking.
- Avoid saturating carpet; no more than 4 wet strokes over one area, always ending with dry strokes.
- Bare Floor Cleaning:
- Requires a bare floor attachment (available separately) and Hoover Bare Floor Cleaner.
- Speed selector can be set to LO or HI for scrubbing, or OFF if scrubbing is not desired.
- Do not use on hardwood floors or with wax.
- Picking Up Spills: Can pick up small liquid spills (1 gallon or less, never exceeding 1/4 inch depth) on carpet, upholstery, or bare floors. For bare floors, use the bare floor attachment with the speed selector in the OFF position to prevent spreading.
- Tool Usage:
- Powered Hand Tool: Features rotating brushes for extra scrubbing on small carpet areas, carpeted stairs, and upholstery.
- Stair/Upholstery Nozzle: Has a built-in brush for scrubbing.
- Tools attach to the hose by sliding onto a connector until a tab locks it securely.
- "Priming the pump" may be necessary for solution to flow to the tool by blocking suction and squeezing the trigger for a few seconds.
- Upholstery Cleaning:
- Only for upholstery marked "W" or "W/S" (wet clean or solvent/dry and wet clean).
- Agitator brushes do not rotate when the handle is in the upright position.
- Gentle pressure, overlapping strokes, and additional dry strokes are used.
- Avoid over-wetting; no more than 2 passes with solution over any one area.
Maintenance Features:
- After Cleaning:
- Allow carpet/upholstery to dry completely.
- Empty and rinse tanks with clear water, then let air dry.
- Rinse solution tank cap and recovery tank lid.
- Remove and clean lint from the filter screen inside the recovery tank.
- Remove and clean lint from the filter screen on the bottom of the cleaner (if brushes rotate slowly).
- Vacuum thoroughly after carpet has dried to reduce shading.
- If tools were used, remove them from the hose and return the hose to storage, ensuring the hose end is pushed completely down into its holder for maximum suction during floor cleaning.
- Nozzle Cleaning: If debris lodges in the nozzle, pour 1-2 cups of clear water on a non-carpeted floor and pick it up with the deep cleaner until debris is flushed out.
- Removable Brushes: The deep cleaner is equipped with removable brushes for easy cleaning.
- To remove, disconnect the cleaner, remove tanks, lower the handle, turn the cleaner over, grasp the inner portion of the brush assembly, and pull it out to reveal latches. Press both latches and pull the brush block out. Brushes can be cleaned under running water.
- To replace, align posts on both ends of the brush assembly with slots in the cleaner housing, ensuring the square post aligns with the square hole, then press firmly to snap into place.
- Storage:
- Empty and rinse solution and recovery tanks thoroughly with clean water.
- Expel any remaining solution from the system by turning the deep cleaner ON, squeezing the trigger, and pushing it forward and back several times (do not use on wood floors for this step).
- Allow brushes and underside to air dry thoroughly before storing on a carpeted or wood surface.
- Do not store with a full solution tank.
- Lubrication: The motor bearings are pre-lubricated for the life of the motor; do not add lubricant.
