Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the Hotpoint refrigerator/freezer combination models FFB6187P and FFB6187AP. It covers installation, description, start-up, use, maintenance, precautions, troubleshooting, guarantee, and after-sales service.

Function Description

The Hotpoint refrigerator/freezer combination is designed for domestic use to store and freeze food products. It features separate compartments for refrigeration and freezing, each with independent temperature controls. The appliance utilizes a No Frost system to prevent ice and frost formation, ensuring constant air circulation and optimal humidity levels to preserve food quality and eliminate the need for manual defrosting. The refrigerator compartment maintains an even internal temperature, while the freezer compartment is designed for rapid freezing and long-term storage of fresh food.

Usage Features

Installation and Positioning:

The appliance should be placed in a well-ventilated, humidity-free room, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It requires at least 10 cm of space above and 5 cm on the sides for proper ventilation. Spacers are provided to maintain the correct distance from the wall. The appliance must be installed on a level, rigid floor, with adjustable front feet for levelling. After transport, it should be placed vertically for at least 3 hours before connecting to the electricity mains.

Electrical Connection:

The appliance must be earthed and connected to a 13amp fused plug and socket compliant with BS 1362. The socket must withstand the appliance's maximum power (e.g., 150W) and the voltage must be within the 220-240V range indicated on the data plate. Extension cords or multiple sockets should not be used. The power supply cable and socket must be easily accessible after installation.

Reversible Doors:

The doors of the appliance can be reversed to open from either the left or right, offering flexibility in kitchen layout. Detailed instructions and diagrams are provided for this procedure, which involves carefully disassembling and reassembling hinges and door components.

Control Panel:

The control panel includes:

  • REFRIGERATOR OPERATION Knob: Adjusts the refrigerator compartment temperature. The "I Care" setting is optimal for energy saving. The "OFF" setting switches the refrigerator off. A holiday function (indicated by a snowflake symbol) maintains the refrigerator at approximately 15°C while the freezer operates at its minimum temperature.
  • SUPER COOL Button and Indicator Light: Activates rapid cooling for the refrigerator compartment, useful when a large quantity of new food is introduced. The yellow indicator light illuminates when active.
  • POWER Indicator Light: Illuminates when the appliance is connected to the electricity network.
  • SUPER FREEZE Button and Indicator Light: Activates rapid freezing for the freezer compartment, essential for freezing fresh food quickly. The yellow indicator light illuminates when active.
  • FREEZER OPERATION Knob: Regulates the freezer compartment temperature. The "I Care" setting is optimal for energy saving. The "OFF" setting switches the entire appliance off.

Starting the Appliance:

  1. Set the FREEZER OPERATION knob to "OFF".
  2. Plug the appliance into the socket, ensuring the green POWER indicator light illuminates.
  3. Turn the REFRIGERATOR OPERATION knob to an average value.
  4. Turn the FREEZER OPERATION knob to an average value and press the SUPER FREEZE button. The SUPER FREEZE indicator light will illuminate and then go out once the optimal temperature is reached.

Using the Refrigerator:

  • Adjust temperature with the REFRIGERATOR OPERATION knob.
  • Use the SUPER COOL function for rapid cooling.
  • Only place cold or lukewarm foods inside.
  • Cooked foods do not last longer than raw foods.
  • Avoid storing liquids in open containers to prevent increased humidity and condensation.
  • Shelves are removable and height-adjustable for flexible storage.

Using the Freezer:

  • Adjust temperature with the FREEZER OPERATION knob.
  • Do not re-freeze defrosted food; it must be cooked and eaten within 24 hours.
  • Fresh food for freezing should be placed in the top FREEZER and STORAGE compartment, ensuring it does not touch already defrosted food.
  • Do not obstruct ventilation holes.
  • Avoid placing glass bottles with liquids in the freezer, as they may break.
  • The maximum daily freezing quantity is indicated on the data plate.
  • To freeze, press the SUPER FREEZE button; the function automatically disables after 24 hours or when optimal temperatures are reached.
  • Do not open the door during freezing or during a power cut/malfunction to maintain temperature.

Maintenance Features

Switching the Appliance Off:

For cleaning or maintenance, set the FREEZER OPERATION knob to "OFF" and unplug the appliance. Failure to do so may trigger an alarm.

Cleaning the Appliance:

  • Clean external and internal parts, as well as rubber seals, with a sponge soaked in lukewarm water and bicarbonate of soda or neutral soap. Avoid solvents, abrasive products, bleach, or ammonia.
  • Removable accessories can be washed with warm water and soap or dishwashing liquid.
  • The back of the appliance can be cleaned of dust with a vacuum cleaner on medium power, after switching off and unplugging the appliance.

Avoiding Mould and Unpleasant Odours:

  • The appliance is made with hygienic, odour-free materials.
  • Always cover or seal food properly to prevent odours and stains.
  • If switching off for an extended period, clean the inside and leave the doors open.

Holiday Function:

To minimize energy usage during holidays, set the REFRIGERATOR OPERATION knob to the snowflake symbol. This maintains the refrigerator at approximately 15°C while the freezer operates at its minimum setting. A double acoustic signal confirms activation, and a single signal confirms deactivation.

Replacing the Light Bulb:

Unplug the appliance. Remove the light bulb cover as indicated in the diagram and replace the bulb with a similar one (15W or 25W).

Precautions and Tips:

  • The appliance is designed for domestic use only and should not be installed outdoors.
  • Do not touch the appliance with bare or wet hands/feet, or internal cooling elements.
  • Always pull the plug, not the cable, when unplugging.
  • Always switch off and disconnect from electrical supply before cleaning/maintenance.
  • Do not attempt repairs yourself.
  • Do not use sharp utensils or electrical equipment (other than manufacturer-recommended types) inside frozen food storage compartments.
  • Do not put ice cubes directly from the freezer into your mouth.
  • Prevent children from tampering with controls, playing with the appliance, or sitting/hanging on bins/doors.
  • Keep packaging material away from children.

Disposal:

  • Dispose of packaging material according to local environmental standards for recycling.
  • Old electrical appliances must be collected separately from municipal waste, as per European Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE). Contact local authorities or retailers for disposal information.
  • To minimize injury risk, remove the door, plug, and cut the mains cable flush with the appliance before disposal.

Respecting and Conserving the Environment:

  • Install in a fresh, well-ventilated room, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Avoid keeping the door open for long periods or opening it too frequently.
  • Do not overfill the appliance to allow cold air circulation.
  • Do not place hot food directly into the refrigerator.
  • Defrost the appliance if ice forms (exceeding 2-3 mm) to maintain energy efficiency.
  • Regularly check and clean door seals to prevent cold air from escaping.
