Overview

The Hoval UltraOil® (65,80) is an oil condensing boiler designed for low-pollutant and energy-saving operation in hot-water heating systems. It is suitable for permitted flow temperatures up to 90°C and can be installed in both closed and open circuits. The boiler is specifically designed for operation with low-sulphur heating oil EL.

Function Description:

The UltraOil® boiler features a vertically arranged combustion chamber made of rustless stainless steel, which serves as its primary heating surface. A secondary heating surface, constructed from a corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy, is designed to condense the water vapour contained in the heating gas. This process recovers the latent heat of evaporation, which is then utilized for the heating circuit, enhancing energy efficiency. The boiler is equipped with a TopTronic® E controller for managing its operations.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The boiler requires careful installation and levelling. A special foundation plate is recommended but not essential. The flange of the boiler must be able to swing out fully with the burner installed. The installation process involves assembling heat insulation, panelling, plinth panelling, flue gas orifice, and the burner.
  • Space Requirements: Adequate space must be provided to allow the hinged door of the boiler to swing open upward and rearward, and for easy access to the cleaning aperture and the boiler's rear side.
  • Fuel: The UltraOil® boiler is designed exclusively for low-sulphur heating oil EL (sulphur content < 50 ppm). When replacing an existing oil heating installation, it is recommended to clean the oil tank before refilling. A residual amount of heating oil EL can be mixed with low-sulphur heating oil EL, provided the total sulphur content does not exceed specified values (e.g., max 3% for 2000 ppm sulphur, max 5% for 1000 ppm sulphur, max 10% for 500 ppm sulphur).
  • Flue Gas System: The exhaust system must be gastight, watertight, acid-resistant, and approved for exhaust gas temperatures up to 120 °C and pressure operation. Horizontal connections must have a gradient towards the boiler to ensure condensate flows back for neutralization.
  • Electrical Connection: Electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician. A main switch with an all-poles cut-out and at least 3 mm clearance between open contacts must be installed on-site.
  • Water Quality: For Germany and Austria, filling and replacement water, as well as heating water, must comply with VDI 2035, ÖNORM H5195, and EN 14868 standards. This includes specific requirements for electrical conductivity, pH value, and chloride, nitrate, and sulphate content.
  • Commissioning: Filling of the heating system and water heater (if fitted) must be done by specialists. Before commissioning, the siphon or neutralization unit must be filled with water. All safety and regulator equipment must be checked. The operator must be instructed on the plant's operation and maintenance.
  • Screed Function: The TopTronic® E controller includes a screed function for drying out screed floors, with adjustable parameters for heating-up phase, stabilization phase, inertia phase, cooling-off phase, and activation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Emission Monitoring: The combustion controller/chimney sweep can access emission monitoring settings to set output and duration of emission measurement.
  • Safety Temperature Limiter (STL) Reset: If the boiler temperature exceeds 100 °C, the STL mechanically locks out the system. To reset, the protective cap must be unscrewed, the STL reset, and then the reset key on the control panel pressed once the boiler water temperature is below 80 °C.
  • Renewing Fuse: The heat generator must be de-energized by disconnecting from the mains (main switch, fuse) before renewing the fuse.
  • Cleaning the Boiler and Burner:
    • Preparation: This involves removing the front cover, lid, locking screws, and side walls to access the burner. The burner flange is then dismounted.
    • Boiler Assembly: After cleaning, the neutralisation box and siphon bottom part must be reattached and filled with water. The cleaning cover and combustion chamber insert are replaced, and boiler doors are shut.
    • Cleaning the Boiler Room: The boiler room must be kept clean and free of dust.
    • Cleaning Combustion Chamber and aluFer® pipes: For light dirt, dry cleaning is performed. For heavy dirt, wet cleaning with a concentrated cleaning agent is recommended. The concentrate should soak for at least 10 minutes, and the cleaning scraper should be used to clean the flow channels. A special cleaning set is available.
  • Leakage Test: After cleaning, a leakage test of the combustion chamber and condensate drip tray must be performed every five years.
  • Servicing the Neutralisation Installation (if fitted): Maintenance should be undertaken at least every second year, or when neutralization granules are exhausted. This involves removing the front cover, withdrawing the neutralization box, cleaning the condensate pump and container (for KB24 type), removing old granules and deposits, and refilling with new granules. The neutralization box cover must be tightly closed. Before putting back into service, the siphon and neutralization box must be filled with water.
