b. Connect the Model 670SM to the Model 71 7 A by plugging the output
cable (the other end of which is plugged into the Model 670SM oscil-
lator) into the terminal assembly on the Model 71 ?A control panel.
c. Plug the power cable (connected to the Model 71 ?A on the rear of
the instrument) into a power source (115 - volt, 50 - 60 cycle). Turn
the POWER switch to the on position.
d. Set BEAM VOLTS at 800, MOD. SELECTOR at CW.
e. Set REFLECTOR RANGE at 600.
£. Set BEAM VOLTS at proper voltage (approximately 850 volts for
the Model 670SM; see Table at end of section for beam voltage for
other oscillators).
g. On the Model 670SM, set the FREQUENCY -KMC dial at 2. 6 kmc.
h. Adjust BIAS VOLTS to obtain beam current of 14-16 ma., with
the MOD. SELECTOR switch (on Model 717 A) in the CW position.
i. On the Model 670SM, set the SELECTOR switch at MANUAL.
J. Set MOD. SELECTOR (or1 Model 717A) to G-INT . MOD.
k. Set MOD. AMP. (on Mode l 717A) to approximately full clockwise
position.
Waveguide - Connect the waveguide in the following sequence :
,
1. To a Model S752D (20 - db coupl e r) Dire ct ional Coupler connect a
Model S752C ( 10 - db co up ler) Di rectional Coupler , back-to - back. The
Model S752D coupler samples the incident power; the Model S752C
coupler samples the reflected power.
NOTE : A 10-db di rec tional coupler rnay be used to sample the in-
. cident power, if desired, but an advantage in accuracy may
be gained by the use of a 2 0- db coupler in the incident channel
of the system.
2. Connect a Model S281A Waveguide to Coaxial Adapter to the input to
the incident coup ler (Model S752.D}.
NOTE : If a waveg uide attenuator is being used (Model S380A Wave-
guide Calibrated Variable Attenuator, S370B or C, or S375A),
connect the attenuator between the Model S281A Waveguide
to Coaxial Adapter and the input to the incident coupler
(Model S752D). Set th e wave g uide attenuator for 10-2.0 db
lass.
