What does it mean if the Power LED flashes Red four times on my HP 8200 Elite?
    • R
      Renee JensenNov 27, 2025
If the Power LED flashes Red four times, once every second, followed by a two second pause, and the computer beeps four times, it indicates a power failure (the power supply is overloaded). Check that the voltage selector, located on the rear of the power supply (some models), is set to the appropriate voltage. Open the hood and ensure the 4- or 6-wire power supply cable is seated into the connector on the system board. Check if a device is causing the problem by removing ALL attached devices (such as hard, diskette, or optical drives, and expansion cards). Power on the system. If the system enters the POST, then power off and replace one device at a time and repeat this procedure until failure occurs. Replace the device that is causing the failure. How to fix no sound or low sound volume on HP 8200 Elite?
    • A
      Alexander HunterAug 27, 2025
If there's no sound or the sound volume is too low on your HP Desktop, the system volume may be set low or muted. Here’s what you can do: 1. Check the F10 BIOS settings to make sure the internal system speaker is not muted (this setting does not affect the external speakers). 2. Make sure the external speakers are properly connected and powered on and that the speakers' volume control is set correctly. 3. Use the system volume control available in the operating system to make sure the speakers are not muted or to increase the volume.

      david57Aug 30, 2025
If your HP Desktop seems to be locked up, it may be because a program in use has stopped responding to commands. Attempt the normal Windows “Shut Down” procedure. If this fails, press the power button for four or more seconds to turn off the power. To restart the computer, press the power button again.

Why does my HP 8200 Elite computer power off automatically?
    • M
      Mark BestAug 31, 2025
If your HP Desktop computer powers off automatically and the Power LED flashes Red two times, once every second, followed by a two second pause, and the computer beeps two times, processor thermal protection may have been activated. A fan may be blocked or not turning. Ensure that the computer air vents are not blocked and the processor cooling fan is running. Open the hood, press the power button, and see if the processor fan spins. If the processor fan is not spinning, make sure the fan's cable is plugged onto the system board header. If the fan is plugged in but not spinning, then replace the heat sink/fan assembly.

      Michael LawrenceSep 22, 2025
If a USB device, headphone, or microphone is not recognized by your HP Desktop, the device is not properly connected. Turn off the computer. Reconnect the device to the front of the computer and restart the computer. Also, the device may not have power. If the USB device requires AC power, be sure one end is connected to the device and one end is connected to a live outlet.

Why is my removable hard drive not recognized on my HP 8200 Elite?
    • S
      Scott JacksonSep 18, 2025
If the removable hard drive is not recognized by the computer, the removable hard drive carrier is not fully seated in the enclosure frame or the hard drive is not fully seated in the carrier. Push the carrier into the enclosure frame so that the connector on the rear of the frame is properly seated. If this does not solve the problem, turn off the computer, remove the carrier, and check to see if the connector on the hard drive is properly seated in the carrier.

      aharrisSep 6, 2025
If the diskette drive light stays on in your HP Desktop, it could be due to several reasons: * The diskette might be damaged. In Microsoft Windows XP, right-click Start, click Explore, and select a drive. Select File > Properties > Tools. Under Error-checking click Check Now. * The diskette might be incorrectly inserted. Remove the diskette and reinsert it. * The drive cable might not be properly connected. Reconnect the drive cable, ensuring that all four pins on the diskette power cable are connected to the drive.
