14 Evaluating color laser printers
Easily handles complex print jobs
With a high-powered 533 MHz processor and 288 MB of printer memory standard on the
HP Color LaserJet 4650dtn and 4650hdn printers (the HP Color LaserJet 4650, 4650n, and
4650dn printers feature 160 MB memory standard), expandable up to 544 MB, print jobs are
rendered efficiently to ensure you take full advantage of the 22 ppm print engine speed.
You won’t have to worry about information flow bottlenecks from your network because the
HP Jetdirect 620n Fast Ethernet print server handles up to 6 MB of data per second (optional for the
HP Color LaserJet 4650 printer).
Complete accuracy and quality printing is guaranteed through automatic switching of HP PCL 6,
HP PCL 5c, and HP Postscript level 3 emulation.
Optional wireless Multiplex XHTML-Print printing
Easily and reliably print from Bluetooth-enabled personal devices like cellular phones and pocket
PCs via the optional HP bt1300 adapter. The HP Color LaserJet 4650 series printer natively
supports the page description language (PDL) Multiplex XHTML-Print, allowing you to effortlessly
print e-mails, documents, or digital images and photos from personal devices, while being assured
that what you see on your screen is what will print on the page.

Convenient job retention features
There are four job retention features: Quick Copy, Proof and Hold, Private Printing, and Stored Job.
All features are available with the HP high-performance EIO hard disk, standard with the HP Color
LaserJet 4650hdn printer. The Proof and Hold and Private Printing features are available with the
HP Color LaserJet 4650dtn printer or by adding RAM to the other printer models. For information
on ordering the hard disk or memory, see Appendix C, “Accessories and supplies,” on page 37.
Quick Copy
Prints the requested number of copies of a job and stores a copy of the job on the
printer’s hard disk. Additional copies of the job can be printed later, directly from the
printer’s control panel.
Proof and Hold
Provides a quick and easy way to print one copy and proof it before printing the
remaining copies. You can either continue printing the remaining copies, which have
been saved at the printer, or cancel them from the printer’s control panel. After the
additional copies are printed, the Proof and Hold job is deleted from the printer. This
reduces network traffic, paper waste, and supplies costs.
Private Printing
Protect confidential documents with the Private Printing feature. This feature lets you
specify that a job will not be printed until you release it using a 4-digit Personal
Identification Number (PIN) through the printer’s control panel. When you enter the
PIN in the driver, it is sent to the printer as part of the print job.
Stored Job
Allows you to download a print job to the printer’s optional hard disk without printing
it. You can then print the job at any time from the printer’s control panel. For example,
you may want to download a personnel form, calendar, time sheet, or accounting form
that other users can access and print. To store a print job permanently on the optional
hard disk, select the Stored Job option in the driver when printing the job.
