Adobe Systems created a 'parallel plane' working environment for Adobe
Photoshop (beginning with version 5.0). This 'parallel plane' allows colors in a
Photoshop document to occupy the color space of the image, or the scanner,
without being converted to the monitor's color space, as was done in
versions before 5.0.
The Color Working Space ultimately becomes an embedded profile in the
image, which describes the source color of the image to applications that
process it later in production.
