A halftone is an image created with an array of tiny dots, each varying in size
in proportion to the 'grayness' of the image the dot is meant to impart.
Halftones allow tonal printing to be done on devices that have one or more
solid colors of ink (printing presses are a good example).
When viewed from the proper distance, a halftone will cause the human eye
to be tricked into seeing tonality even though there is only solid color
present.
