Troubleshooting and Maintenance
Check Here First
Before proceeding, check the items listed below. If you cannot resolve a
problem, contact HP FIRST for assistance. Phone numbers are listed on
the support pages at the front of this manual.
Is the power supply connected to the HP LaserJet Companion and
plugged into an electrical outlet?
Is the HP LaserJet 6L Printer plugged into an electrical outlet?
Did you try unplugging the HP LaserJet Printer and Companion from the
electrical outlet, then plugging them back in?
Is the interface cable from the HP LaserJet Companion to the computer
connected?
Is the parallel cable from the HP LaserJet Companion to the printer
connected?
Are you using an IEEE-1284 compliant parallel cable? (“IEEE-1284” will
be stamped on the cable.)
Are you having problems with installation? (If so, check the section on
solving installation problems.)
Are the Printer and the Companion free of paper jams? (If not, see their
respective sections on clearing paper jams later in this chapter.)
Are the Front Panel indicator lights on your printer indicating a problem?
(If so, check the section on Printer Messages later in this chapter.)
Are there any messages displayed on your computer? (If so, check the
section on error messages later in this chapter.)
Are you experiencing poor print quality? (If so, see the section on
Solving Print Quality problems.)
Are you unable to scan? (If so, see the section titled “HP LaserJet
Companion Operation Problems.”)
For more information on setup and installation, see chapter one. If you
have questions that you do not find the answers to in this chapter, see
the HP service and support information in appendix B, “Warranty and
Support Information.”
Caution
The HP LaserJet Companion is not compatible with hardware security
keys installed on the parallel port. These security keys are typically used
with high-end design and architectural applications.
