Overview

The HPC Digital KeKab® is a secure key cabinet system equipped with a Digilock® digital lock, designed for managing and securing keys. This system is available in several models, including KEKAB-DL65, KEKAB-DL95X, and KEKAB-DL265. The KeKab operates with two levels of access codes: a User Code and a Manager Code, providing flexible security management.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Digital KeKab® is to provide secure storage for keys, accessible only through a programmable digital lock. The lock is designed to prevent unauthorized access through a combination of code-based entry and security features such as lockout after multiple incorrect attempts. The cabinet is equipped with a magnetic catch that holds the door in place, allowing the spring latch to move freely during normal operations. If the latch ever binds, users are instructed to push the door inward while entering their combination.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Lock Type: Digilock® Digital Lock
  • Power Source: Two 9-volt alkaline batteries.
  • Code Levels:
    • User Code: A 4-digit programmable code for general access and self-reprogramming.
    • Manager Code: A 5-digit programmable code with higher privileges, capable of reprogramming both itself and the User Code, in addition to opening the lock.
  • Low Battery Indicator: The lock emits three short, consecutive beeps each time it is unlocked when batteries are low. This indicator appears several weeks before the lock becomes inoperable.
  • Battery Override: In case of complete battery failure, the lock can be "jumped" using a fresh 9-volt battery via override terminals on the face of the lock, utilizing a KEKAB-DLJH Jumper Harness.
  • Security Lockout: Three consecutive incorrect combination entries will disable the lock for one minute. Each subsequent incorrect entry will also result in a "sleep state" for one minute to prevent brute-force attacks.
  • Default Codes: New locks come with default user and manager override codes that must be changed immediately after installation for security. Once changed, factory pre-set codes become inoperable.

Usage Features:

  • Opening the Lock:
    • With User Code: Press 'C', then enter the registered 4-digit User Code, followed by '0'.
    • With Manager Code: Press 'C', then enter the registered 5-digit Manager Bypass Code, followed by '0'.
  • Closing the Lock: Simply close the door.
  • Error Correction: If an error is made while entering a combination, pressing 'C' at any time will clear the entry and allow the user to start over.
  • Code Reprogramming:
    • Changing Manager Bypass Code:
      1. Press 'C', then enter the existing 5-digit Manager Bypass Code, followed by '0'. The L.E.D. will turn on.
      2. Press 'C', then enter the new 5-digit Manager Bypass Code.
      3. Press 'C', then repeat the new 5-digit Manager Bypass Code. The L.E.D. will turn off.
    • Changing User Code (with Manager Bypass Code):
      1. Press 'C', then enter the existing 5-digit Manager Bypass Code, followed by '0'. The L.E.D. will turn on.
      2. Press 'C', then enter the new 4-digit User Code.
      3. Press 'C', then repeat the new 4-digit User Code. The L.E.D. will turn off.
    • Changing User Code (with User Code):
      1. Press 'C', then enter the existing 4-digit User Code, followed by '0'. The L.E.D. will turn on.
      2. Press 'C', then enter the new 4-digit User Code.
      3. Press 'C', then repeat the new 4-digit User Code. The L.E.D. will turn off.
  • Jumper Harness (KEKAB-DLJH) Usage:
    • In case of dead batteries and a locked cabinet, the Jumper Harness allows temporary power to be supplied.
    • Engage the two metal contacts of the Jumper Harness plug into the port terminal on the upper left corner of the lock face. Ensure the red (+) wire connects to the uppermost terminal and the black (-) wire to the lowermost terminal.
    • Connect a fresh 9-volt battery to the Jumper Harness battery receptacle. The lock will beep, indicating a solid connection.
    • Hold the connection and enter the code to unlock the unit.
    • Important Note: If batteries have been disconnected for more than 5 minutes, the lock may revert to its original factory codes. Ensure correct polarity when connecting the Jumper Harness to avoid shorting the lock or draining the battery.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Installation/Replacement:
    1. Lay the cabinet down and open the door.
    2. Remove three small metal screws (indicated in Fig. 1 of the manual) from the lock's back plate. Do not remove the two large anchor screws that secure the lock to the KeKab® door.
    3. Remove the back plate.
    4. Carefully connect two 9-volt batteries to their receptacles.
    5. Replace the back plate and secure it with the three small screws.
    6. Remove any tape from the latch.
  • Pre-Shipment Status: All Digital KeKabs® are factory tested, and batteries are disconnected before shipping to prevent drainage.
  • Initial Setup Recommendation: Before shutting the door, it is crucial to remove the back plate, connect the batteries, and test the digital lock with the factory codes to avoid potential lockout.
  • Code Reset: As soon as possible after initial setup, all factory default codes should be reset to new, custom codes to ensure security.
  • Documentation: Keep the instruction manual and all codes in a safe, retrievable location for future reference.
  • Proof of Purchase: Retain the original HPC Bar Code Label as proof of purchase for potential factory assistance.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • No Audible Feedback when 'C' Button is Depressed:
      • Indicates failed batteries; replace them. Use the Jumper Harness if locked out.
      • Could be a poor door connection; remove and reinstall the lock.
      • The lock might be in "sleep state"; wait one minute and try again.
    • Lock Does Not Unlock:
      • Listen for other audible feedback.
      • Try operating with the Manager Code and the Jumper Harness.
      • Contact Digilock® product support.
    • Two Sets of Three Beeps During Operation: This is the Low Battery Indicator; replace batteries.
    • Ten Rapid Beeps During Operation: This is the Binding Indicator; the lock is binding with the strike plate. Press firmly on the door while operating. If persistent, align the strike plate and/or door hinges.
