This document provides a quick start guide and safety information for the Huawei WS331c 300Mbps Range Extender. It outlines the steps for setting up the device and important safety precautions for its use and maintenance.
Function Description
The Huawei WS331c is a 300Mbps range extender designed to expand the coverage of a wireless network. It acts as a repeater, receiving the Wi-Fi signal from an existing wireless router and re-transmitting it to cover areas with weak or no signal. This allows for improved Wi-Fi connectivity in larger homes or offices. The device can be configured in two primary ways: automatically using the WPS button or manually through a web-based interface.
Usage Features
Easy Setup:
The WS331c offers a straightforward setup process.
- Step 1: Powering On: To begin, simply plug the WS331c into a power socket located near your existing wireless router. The device's indicator light will provide status updates:
- Steady white: Indicates normal operation.
- Fast blinking: Indicates the device is starting up.
- Off: Indicates the device is powered off.
- Step 2: Connecting to the Wireless Router:
- Method 1: Automatic Connection (WPS Button): This is the simplest method. Press the WPS button on the WS331c, and then within a short timeframe, press the WPS button on your wireless router. The devices will automatically connect and configure themselves.
- Method 2: Manual Connection (Web Page): For more control or if your router does not have a WPS button, you can connect manually.
- First, identify the WS331c's default Wi-Fi network name (SSID), which is unencrypted by default. Connect your phone, tablet, or laptop wirelessly to this network.
- Open a web browser on your connected device and enter either
192.168.3.1 or mediarouter.home into the address bar to access the configuration screen.
- Enter the default login password, which is
admin.
- Once logged in, touch "Internet Connection Wizard" and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the configuration and connect the WS331c to your wireless router.
Restoring Default Settings:
If you need to reset the device to its factory settings, ensure the WS331c is powered on. Use a needle or a similar pointed object to press and hold the Reset key for 2 seconds or more. The indicator light will turn off, signifying that the device has been reset.
Maintenance Features
General Safety and Handling:
- Operating Environment: The WS331c is designed for operation in temperatures between 0°C and 40°C. Avoid exposing the device to extreme heat or cold, as this can cause damage. Keep the device and its accessories in a well-ventilated, cool area away from direct sunlight. Do not cover the device with towels or other objects, and avoid placing it in containers with poor heat dissipation, such as boxes or bags.
- Environmental Hazards: Protect the device from fire and electrical shock hazards by avoiding rain and moisture. Keep it away from sources of heat and fire, including heaters, microwave ovens, stoves, water heaters, radiators, or candles.
- Physical Protection: Avoid collision, which can lead to malfunctions, overheating, fire, or explosion. Do not block any device openings; ensure a minimum of 10 cm clearance around the device for proper heat dissipation.
- Electromagnetic Interference: Keep the device away from electronic appliances that generate strong magnetic or electric fields, such as microwave ovens or refrigerators, to prevent interference.
- Thunderstorms: During thunderstorms, power off your device to protect it from lightning strikes and any associated dangers.
- Antenna Handling: Do not touch the device's antenna, as this may reduce communication quality.
- Children and Pets: Do not allow children or pets to bite or suck on the device or its accessories, as this could cause damage or explosion. The device and its accessories are not intended for use by children and should only be used under adult supervision.
- Placement for Optimal Performance: For good reception, place the device away from other metal materials (like metal brackets, doors, or windows). The distance between the device and such materials should be greater than 25 cm, and the distance between the device and other devices should be greater than 30 cm.
- User Exposure: The device should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20 cm between the radiator and your body. If the device overheats, stop using it or its applications for a while. Prolonged skin exposure to an overheated device may cause low-temperature burn symptoms like red spots or darker pigmentation.
Power Adapter Safety:
- Disconnect Device: The power plug serves as the disconnect device.
- Accessibility: For pluggable devices, the socket-outlet should be installed near the device and be easily accessible.
- Unplug When Not in Use: Always unplug the power adapter from electrical outlets and the device when it is not in use.
- Handle with Care: Do not drop the power adapter or subject it to impact. If damaged, take it to an authorized service center for inspection.
- Cable Integrity: If the power cable is damaged (e.g., exposed or broken) or the plug loosens, stop using it immediately. Continued use may lead to electric shocks, short circuits, or fire.
- Wet Hands: Do not touch the device or power adapter with wet hands, as this can cause short circuits, malfunctions, or electric shocks.
- Liquid Exposure: If the power adapter has been exposed to water, other liquids, or excessive moisture, take it to an authorized service center for inspection.
Cleaning and Storage:
- Keep Dry: During storage, transportation, and operation, keep the device dry and protect it from collision. Do not attempt to dry the device or accessories with external heat sources like microwave ovens or hair dryers.
- Cleaning Agents: Do not use chemical detergents, powders, or other chemical agents (such as alcohol and benzene) to clean the device or accessories. These substances can damage parts or pose a fire hazard. Instead, use a clean, soft, and dry cloth to clean the device and accessories.
- Magnetic Cards: Do not place magnetic stripe cards (e.g., credit cards, phone cards) near the device for extended periods, as this may damage them.
- Disassembly: Do not dismantle or remanufacture the device or its accessories. Doing so voids the warranty and releases the manufacturer from liability for damage. In case of damage, contact an authorized service center for assistance or repair.
- Before Cleaning: Before cleaning or maintaining the device, stop using it, close all applications, and disconnect all connected cables.
- Long-Term Storage: If the device will not be used for an extended period, power it off.
- Unusual Behavior: If anything unusual occurs (e.g., the device emits smoke or an unusual sound or smell), immediately stop using it, power it off, and contact an authorized service center.
Disposal and Recycling:
The device, batteries (if included), and electrical accessories should not be disposed of as household garbage. They should be taken to a certified collection point for recycling or proper disposal, in accordance with WEEE Directive Recast (2012/19/EU) and Battery Directive (2006/66/EC). For more information on recycling, contact your local city office, household waste disposal service, or retail store. The device complies with REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 and RoHS Directive Recast (2011/65/EU).
