Overview

This document is an operator manual for the Husqvarna MZ52/967277401 Zero Turn Rider, a ride-on mower designed for efficient grass mowing, primarily in large areas. The machine is equipped with a Kohler four-stroke overhead valve engine and a hydrostatic transmission.

Function Description:

The Husqvarna MZ52 is a ride-on mower primarily designed for mowing grass on lawns and even ground free of obstacles like stones or tree stumps. It can also be used for other tasks when equipped with manufacturer-provided accessories. The machine features a control panel that is easily accessible to the operator and a hydrostatic transmission regulated by steering controls, contributing to its performance and maneuverability. The zero-turn capability allows for very rapid turns by moving one steering control backward and the other forward.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Engine: Kohler KT740, 25 HP, pressure lubrication with oil filter, air-cooled.

Engine stops if the parking brake is not engaged and the operator leaves the seat, or if the mower blades are engaged and the driver moves off the seat.

Usage Features:

  • Steering Controls: Two levers control speed and direction. Moving both forward or backward moves the machine in a straight line. Turning is achieved by reducing the speed of one wheel. Zero-turn capability allows for rapid rotation by moving one control backward and the other forward.
  • Choke Control: Used for cold starts to provide a richer fuel mixture.
  • Tracking Knob: Allows fine-tuning adjustments for straight tracking. Rotating clockwise increases speed on the left lever, counterclockwise decreases it.
  • Parking Brake: Located on the left side, pulled backward to activate, pushed forward to release. Must be engaged when dismounting.
  • Blade Switch: Pull knob out to engage mower deck, press down fully to disengage.
  • Ignition Switch: Used to start and stop the engine. Key turns clockwise to start, then releases to RUN position. For models with headlights, turning clockwise to ACCESSORY activates them.
  • Cutting Height Adjuster: Height pin sets the desired cutting height. Lift pedal releases the deck to the selected height. For transport, the lift pedal is pushed fully forward to latch the deck in the highest position.
  • Seat Adjustment Lever: Allows lengthways adjustment of the seat.
  • Fuel Shut Off Valve: Located behind the seat, valve is off when the handle tab is perpendicular to the fuel line.
  • Hydro Release Levers: Located on each side of the rear of the unit, below the rear engine plate. Must be engaged when pushing or pulling the mower.
  • Slope Operation: Mow up and down slopes (max 10 degrees), not across. Use low ground speed, avoid wet grass, and do not stop or turn on slopes.
  • Mowing Tips: Begin with a high cutting height, reduce gradually. Mow often for best results. Maintain high engine speed and low driving speed. Avoid mowing wet lawns. Clean mower deck underside with water after each use. Use compressed air for the top surface.

Maintenance Features:

  • Service Journal: Provided for documenting service and repair work.
  • Maintenance Schedule: Detailed schedule for daily, 25-hour, 50-hour, 100-hour, 250-hour, 300-hour, and annual maintenance tasks.

  • Tire Pressures: Check regularly, maintain 15 psi (1 bar) for all tires.
  • Deck Belt: Removal and installation procedures provided, including slackening the tensioner.
  • Pump Belt: Replacement procedure provided. Belts are not adjustable, replace if worn.
  • Cutting Blades: Sharpen and balance regularly. Replace bent or cracked blades. Torque blade bolt to 45-55 ft-lbs (60-75 Nm).
  • Mower Deck Adjustment: Leveling procedure for the deck, ensuring blade tips are level side-to-side and slightly higher in the rear.
  • Anti-scalp Rollers: Adjust to be slightly off the ground at desired cutting height to prevent scalping.
  • Caster Wheels: Check every 200 hours for free rotation.
  • Hardware: Daily inspection for loose or missing hardware.
  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning, especially under the deck, increases lifespan. Avoid spraying engine and electrical components with water.
  • Lubrication Schedule: Detailed chart for lubricating various components (grease gun, oil change, filter change). Includes specific points like front wheel mount, front wheel bearings, and deck spindles.
  • Transaxle Fluid Change: Recommended every 200 hours. Procedure includes removing filter guard, draining oil, replacing filter, and refilling with 20W50 motor oil.
  • Transmission Purging: Procedure to remove air from the hydrostatic system, critical after maintenance or oil addition.
  • Winter Storage: Steps for preparing the machine for storage, including cleaning, inspecting, changing engine oil, draining fuel (or using stabilizer), lubricating, and storing the battery.
  • Spark Arrestor: If used, it should be maintained in effective working order.
