Overview

This is a user manual for the Husqvarna LB 144 and LB 244E pedestrian-controlled rotary lawn mowers, designed to cut grass using the BioClip function, which mulches the grass into fertilizer.

Function Description:

The Husqvarna LB 144 and LB 244E are walk-behind rotary lawn mowers. The BioClip function allows the grass to be finely chopped and returned to the lawn as fertilizer. The product is intended solely for cutting grass and should not be used for other tasks.

Weight:

  • With Empty Tanks: 22 kg (LB 144), 23.5 kg (LB 244E)

Noise Emissions (measured as sound power LWA in conformity with EC directive 2000/14/EC):

  • Measured Sound Power Level: 91 dB(A) (LB 144), 92 dB(A) (LB 244E)
  • Guaranteed Sound Power Level: 94 dB(A)

  • Vibrations Upper Handle: 7.6 m/s² (LB 144), 6.0 m/s² (LB 244E)

Cutting Equipment:

  • Cutting Height: 25-75 mm (adjustable in 6 steps)
  • Cutting Width: 440 mm
  • Cutting System: BioClip®
  • Standard Blade: Mulch 5464584-10

Start System:

  • Electric Starter: No (LB 144), Yes (LB 244E)
  • Battery (LB 244E): Li-ion, 10.8V, 21.6Wh

Usage Features:

  • Handle Assembly: The handle can be pulled backward to its end position and secured with knobs.
  • Handle Height Adjustment: The handle height can be adjusted by pressing a height adjustment bail with your foot and positioning the handlebar correctly.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The cutting height can be adjusted in 6 different steps using a lever. It is crucial not to set the cutting height too low to avoid blade contact with uneven ground.
  • Starting the Product:
    • LB 144 (Manual Start): Ensure the ignition cable is connected to the spark plug. Stand behind the product, hold the engine brake handle against the upper handle, grasp the starter rope handle with your right hand, pull the rope slowly until resistance is felt, then pull with force to start. Never wrap the starter rope around your hand.
    • LB 244E (Electrical Start): Ensure the battery is charged and attached to the engine (it locks with a click). Stand behind the product, hold the engine brake handle (A) against the upper handle, and press and hold the electrical start button (B) for 3-5 seconds. If the engine does not start, wait 1 minute and try again.
  • Stopping the Product: Release the engine brake handle.
  • Removing the Battery (LB 244E): To prevent accidental starting, remove the battery by pressing the lock button (A) and pulling it straight out when the product is not in operation.
  • Achieving Good Results: Always use a sharp blade for an even cut. Avoid cutting more than ⅓ of the grass length at a time. For very long grass, drive slowly and cut twice if necessary. Cut in different directions each time to prevent stripes. Keep the cutting cover clean.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Inspection: Ensure all nuts and screws are correctly tightened.
  • External Cleaning: Use a brush to remove debris. Ensure the air intake on top of the engine is not blocked. Do not use a high-pressure washer or direct water onto the engine.
  • Cleaning Around Handle Height Adjustment Bail: Use a brush to remove debris.
  • Cleaning Inner Surface of Cutting Cover: Empty the fuel tank, tilt the product with the spark plug pointing up, and hose down the inner surface with water.
  • Checking Cutting Equipment: Disconnect the spark plug cable. Wear protective gloves. Examine for damage, cracks, or bluntness. Damaged equipment must be replaced.
  • Replacing the Blade: Block the blade with a wooden block, remove the blade bolt and spring washer, and remove the blade. Inspect the blade support, blade bolt, and engine shaft for damage. When attaching a new blade, ensure angled ends point towards the cutting cover and the blade is aligned with the engine shaft center. Secure with a wooden block, attach the spring washer, and tighten the bolt and washer to 44-46 Nm. Rotate the blade by hand to ensure free movement. Test the blade by starting the product.
  • Checking Oil Level: Place the product on level ground, remove the oil cap with the dipstick, clean the dipstick, insert it fully, remove, and check the oil level. Refill if low. Use a funnel to prevent spills.
  • Replacing Engine Oil: Operate until the fuel tank is empty. Disconnect the spark plug cable. Remove the oil cap. Place a container under the product to collect oil. Tilt the product or drain oil with an oil pump. Fill with new recommended engine oil. Check the oil level again. (Note: Engine oil is hot after stopping; allow to cool. Wash skin with soap and water if oil spills.)
  • Air Filter Maintenance: A dirty air filter can damage the engine. Clean more frequently in dusty conditions. Always replace a damaged air filter.
    • LB 244E (Removal/Installation): Wear protective gloves. Press clips, carefully remove the air filter cover (A), and remove the air filter (B). Inspect for damage. Clean by tapping against a flat surface (do not use solvents or compressed air). Install in reverse order.
    • LB 144 (Foam Plastic Filter Cleaning): Do not start the engine without air filters. Remove the air filter cover (A) and foam plastic filters (B). Inspect for damage. Clean with soap and water, rinse, squeeze dry (do not use compressed air). Lubricate with engine oil, press with a clean cloth to remove excess oil. Install, ensuring a tight seal.
  • Battery Maintenance (LB 244E): Maintenance-free. Service only by an approved service center if necessary.
    • First Use: Charge the battery before first operation. Connect the charger, wait for at least 1 green LED, then attach to the engine.
    • Charging: If 1 or 0 indicators are on, charge the battery. A depleted battery fully charges in 2 hours. Shorter charging periods do not harm the battery. Connect the charger to the battery and a power socket (100-240V, 50-60Hz). Disconnect from the socket first, then from the battery. LED indicators show charging status (red: charging, green: fully charged).
  • Checking Spark Plug: Always use the recommended type. Inspect if the engine has low power, is hard to start, or runs poorly at idle. Clean if dirty, ensure correct electrode gap (0.7-0.8 mm). Replace if necessary.
  • Checking Fuel System: Examine the fuel tank cap and seal for damage. Check the fuel hose for leaks; replace if damaged by a service agent.
