3. Loosen the hose clip that holds the air filter
cartridge.
4. Remove the air filter cartridge from the filter housing.
5. Remove the foam rubber filter around the air filter
cartridge.
6. Clean the foam rubber filter with a weak detergent.
7. Let the foam rubber filter become fully dry.
8. Hit the paper filter against a hard surface to clean it.
Do not use compressed air.
9. If the paper filter does not become clean, replace it.
10. Put the foam rubber filter around the air filter
cartridge.
11. Put the air filter cartridge on the air hose.
12. Attach the air filter cartridge with the hose clip.
13. Attach the air filter cover and tighten the knobs.
9.2.6 To clean and change the air filter, Briggs &
Stratton
1. Open the engine cover.
2. Loosen the knobs that hold the filter cover and lift off
the cover.
3. Lift the end of the air filter to remove it.
4. Hit the paper filter against a hard surface to clean it.
Do not use compressed air.
5. If the paper filter does not become clean, replace it.
6. Put the air filter back on the air hose.
7. Push the air filter into correct position.
8. Attach the air filter cover and tighten the knobs.
9.2.7 To examine and replace a spark plug
1. Open the engine cover.
2. Remove the ignition cable shoe and clean around
the spark plug.
3. Remove the spark plug with a spark plug wrench.
4. Examine the spark plug. Replace it if the electrodes
are burned or if the insulation has cracks or
damages. If the spark plug is not damaged, clean it
with a steel brush.
5. Measure the electrode gap and make sure that it is
correct. Refer to
Technical data on page 66
.
6. Bend the side electrode to adjust the electrode gap.
7. Put the spark plug back in and turn it by hand until it
touches the spark plug seat.
8. Tighten the spark plug with the spark plug wrench
until the washer is compressed.
