Do you have a question about the HUSTLER FasTrak SmoothTrak Steering and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document is an operator's manual for the Hustler® FasTrak® series of riding lawn mowers, designed for mowing purposes only. The manual provides comprehensive information on the safe operation, maintenance, and adjustment of the equipment.

Function Description:

The Hustler® FasTrak® is a riding lawn mower equipped with a SmoothTrak™ steering system, allowing for precise control of speed, direction, stopping, and parking. It features a safety start interlock system to prevent unintentional engine starting and accidental entanglement during operation. This system includes park brake switches, a seat switch, and a deck clutch switch. The mower is capable of operating on slopes up to 15 degrees, with specific precautions outlined for safe operation on varied terrain. The deck cutting height is adjustable in 6.4 mm increments, and anti-scalp wheels are standard to minimize scalping on uneven ground. Bypass valves on the transaxles allow the mower to be moved even if the engine is stalled.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides detailed technical specifications for various models within the Hustler® FasTrak® series, including:

  • Guaranteed Sound Power Level: 105 dBA for all listed models (941732CE, 941724CE, 943449CE, 941757CE).
  • Operator Ear Sound Level: Ranging from 86.5 dBA to 89.5 dBA, depending on the model.
  • Engine RPM: Ranging from 2750 (± 50) RPM to 2850 (± 50) RPM. It is explicitly stated that engine speed (RPM) settings should never be altered or tampered with.
  • Vibration (Maximum weighted acceleration m/s² - whole body): Ranging from 0.67 m/s² to 0.98 m/s², depending on the model. The acceleration value depends on ground roughness, operating speed, and operator driving habits. Measurements are obtained through actual field data according to ISO 2631-1:1997 STD Procedure.
  • Machine Mass: Ranging from 404 kg to 435 kg.
  • Nominal Engine Power: Ranging from 14.9 kW to 15.2 kW.
  • Cutting Width: Ranging from 121.9 cm to 137.2 cm.
  • Hand/Arm Vibration: RMS acceleration measured in 24 seconds is greater than 2.5 m/s² for model 941732CE, and less than 2.5 m/s² for models 941724CE, 943449CE, and 941757CE. These values are obtained through hand/arm measurement per EN ISO 5349-1:2001.
  • Electrical System: 12-volt, negative ground system. Recommended battery size is BCI group U1R with 225 or more cranking AMPs. A master in-line 30-amp fuse protects the entire electrical system.
  • Hydraulic System: Equipped with two integrated hydrostatic transmissions (transaxles). Uses SAE 20W50 motor oil, or 15W50/20W50 synthetic oil for system oil and filter changes. Hustler® Full Synthetic 20W50 Hydrostatic Transmission Oil is recommended for maximum transmission life.
  • Fuel System: Designed to use regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher, with a maximum of 10% ethanol (E10). Fuels with greater than 10% ethanol void the warranty. Includes a fuel shut-off valve and a fuel evaporation system filter.

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel: Features a deck clutch switch, ignition switch (OFF, RUN, START positions), throttle control, choke control, electronic hour meter, oil pressure light, and fuel gauge.
  • Steering Control Levers: Control speed, direction, stopping, and parking. Rapid movements can damage hydraulic components.
  • Deck Lift Pedal: Used to raise or lower the deck and set the cutting height.
  • ROPS (Roll Over Protective Structure): Provided for safety, must be secured in the raised position with the seat belt fastened to minimize injury risk in case of overturn. Can be folded down for low-clearance areas, but the seat belt should not be worn in this position.
  • Slope Operation: Requires extreme caution. Mower should be operated slowly and gradually on slopes, avoiding sudden changes in speed or direction. Maximum slope is 15 degrees.
  • Ramp Usage: Extreme caution is advised when loading/unloading on ramps. Use a single, full-width ramp and avoid sudden acceleration.
  • Emergency Stop: Place steering control levers in the park brake position immediately.
  • Moving with Stalled Engine: Bypass valves on transaxles allow manual movement. Ensure valves are returned to operating position before restarting.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Maintenance: Emphasized as crucial for preventing downtime and costly repairs. Includes daily inspections for grass clippings, wire tangles, and damage.
  • Torque Values: Specific torque values are provided for wheel lug nuts (95 N·m), blade spindle bolts (top 95 N·m, bottom 160 N·m). Lug nuts should be checked after the first 2 hours, then every 40 hours, and after removal for repair.
  • Lubrication: Use SAE multi-purpose grease.
  • Electrical System Maintenance: Includes checking battery terminals and cables, and replacing unreadable or missing decals.
  • Hydraulic System Maintenance: Initial oil and filter change after 75 hours or 1 year, then every 2 years or 200 hours. Use Hustler® Full Synthetic 20W50 Hydrostatic Transmission Oil.
  • Fuel System Maintenance: Fuel evaporation system filter should be checked and replaced every 300 hours or annually.
  • Engine Oil and Filter: Check oil daily and every 4 hours. Initial oil and filter change after 50 hours, then every 100 hours. Hustler® Engine Oil is recommended.
  • Engine Air Filter: A dry filter is standard. Element should be replaced, not cleaned, to prevent dirt ingestion.
  • Belts: Inspect frequently for wear and serviceability. Replace if showing severe cuts, tears, separation, weather checking, cracking, or burns.
  • Mower Blades: Inspect daily for sharpness and damage. Replace bent, cracked, or broken blades. Sharpening instructions are provided, emphasizing proper balance.
  • Seat Adjustment: Adjustable for operator comfort via a release lever and a ride adjustment knob.
  • Steering Control Lever Adjustment: Levers can be pivoted forward/rearward and raised/lowered for operator comfort.
  • Storage: Detailed procedures for preparing the mower, engine, and battery for storage, including cleaning, lubrication, fuel stabilization, and battery charging. New season preparation steps are also outlined.

The manual stresses the importance of reading and understanding all safety precautions and decals to prevent serious injury or death. It also advises contacting an authorized Hustler® Dealer for any issues not covered or for service and parts.
