Installing Internal Drives
Installing a Drive in Bank C
Before you begin:
Be sure you have:
Purchased a hot-swap-drive tray for each hot-swap drive
that you plan to install.
Prepared the drive for installation (see “Preinstallation Steps
(All Bays)” on page 204).
Opened the front cover (see “Preparing to Install Options”
on page 163)
If you are also installing or removing backplanes, cables, the fan
assembly, and adapters, be sure that you have:
Removed the side cover (see “Preparing to Install Options”
on page 163)
Ensured that the backplane address jumper J2 is set to “C.”
Notes:
Banks C, D, and E support hot-swap drives only.
If your server is a disk-array model, you must
reconfigure your disk arrays after you install hard disk
drives. See “Starting the ServeRAID Configuration
Program” on page 86 for details.
You do not have to turn off the server to install
additional hot-swap drives in bank C.
Attention: Before you hot-swap a drive, make sure it is
defective. If you partially or completely remove a good
drive instead of a defective one, your server might lose
valuable data.
If you have a SCSI drive in bay B, you can have up to
five drives in bank C that are connected to the same SCSI
cable. If no SCSI drive is in bay B, you can have up to
six drives in bank C.
