Forgotten computer password (making the computer
unusable)
The following symptoms might indicate damage caused by
by nonwarranted activities:
Missing parts might be a symptom of unauthorized
service or modification.
HDD spindles can become noisy from being sub-
jected to excessive force or from being dropped.
How to Disable the Password
There are three passwords used at a typical customer site:
the Setup password, the HDD password, and the Power
On password.
Power On password:
1. Power off the computer.
2. Remove the battery pack and AC Adapter.
3. Remove the backup battery (RTC) for 20
minutes or use a screwdriver to touch the
backup battery (RTC) for 1 second.
4. Put back the backup battery (RTC).
5. Power on the computer and wait until POST
ends.
6. Verifty that the password prompt does not
appear.
Supervisor and HDD passwords:
The Supervisor password and HDD password (HDD-1
and HDD-2) are security features that are used to
protect the system and the hard disk drive data from
unauthorized access. No overriding capability is pro-
vided, so it cannot be reset if forgotten. If the cus-
tomer forgets the Supervisor password, the planar
board must be replaced. If the customer forgets the
HDD password, the hard disk drive must be replaced.
