Summary

Idle Smart Installation Overview

Main Components List

Lists the primary hardware components included with the Idle Smart system, such as the display unit, base unit, and harness.

Safety Switches Identification

Details the specific safety switches required for installation, including park brake, neutral safety, and hood switches.

Display Mounting Hardware

Outlines the necessary components for mounting the display unit, including cables, plates, and connectors.

Included Guides and Documentation

Specifies the supplementary documentation provided, such as Quickstart, User Manual, and the Installation Guide itself.

Miscellaneous Installation Components

Lists additional items for installation, including connectors, ties, cleaning supplies, putty, and stickers.

Vehicle Preparation and CanBus Verification

Safe Vehicle Condition

Ensures the vehicle is parked safely, wheels are chocked, and safety gear is used before starting installation.

CanBus J1939 Protocol Verification

Confirms the vehicle uses the J1939 protocol and checks for specific pins (C and D) on the 9-pin connector.

Component Installation and Wiring

Base Unit Placement

Locates an appropriate position for the Base Unit behind the dash, near the parking brake line and power source.

Base Unit Power Connection

Connects the Base Unit's red wire to a constant 12VDC source and the black wire to ground.

Hood Safety Switch Installation

Mounts the hood switch for proper operation and connects its wiring through the firewall.

System Connections and Safety Switch Integration

Park Brake Safety Switch

Installs a T-fitting on the air brake line and connects the yellow-sheathed wire to the switch.

Ignition System Wiring

Connects Idle Smart wires to the vehicle's ignition switch for battery, accessory, and start signals.

Cruise Control or PTO Integration

Connects the system to either cruise control signals or PTO wires for RPM control.

Neutral Safety Switch Installation

Installs the switch on the transmission and connects the green/yellow wire, bypassing for automatic transmissions.

Sensor Installation and System Testing

Diagnostic Port Connection

Connects the 9-pin connector to the vehicle's diagnostic port and runs the wire to the Base Unit.

Interior Temperature Sensor

Installs the interior sensor, connecting it via gray-sheathed wire, ideally near the driver's head.

Outside Temperature Sensor

Installs the exterior sensor by running the black-sheathed wire and extension cable along the truck frame.

Basic Operation Test

Tests the system by checking display, timer, target temperature, and RPM increase/decrease functionality.

Display Unit Mounting

Mounts the display unit on a flat, vertical surface in the bunk area using the provided plate and screws.

Finalizing Installation and User Handover

Secure Base Unit Inside Dash

Ensures the Base Unit is securely fastened within the dash to prevent vibration or interference.

Placement of Warning Stickers

Applies warning stickers to frame rails and the 'Equipped with Idle Smart' sticker to the truck's side.
