Overview

The Ignik FireCan is a portable fire pit designed for outdoor recreational use, offering a convenient and safe way to enjoy a fire without the need for solid fuels. It operates on propane, providing a clean-burning flame for warmth and ambiance. The device is engineered for ease of setup and breakdown, making it suitable for various outdoor activities such as camping, tailgating, or backyard gatherings.

Function Description:

The FireCan functions as a portable propane-fueled fire pit, designed to safely combust propane gas to produce a flame. It is intended for outdoor use only, providing a contained fire source that eliminates the need for wood or other solid fuels, thereby reducing smoke and ash. The unit features a burner component that ignites the propane, creating a visible flame screen for aesthetic appeal and warmth. Its design prioritizes safety, incorporating features to prevent gas leaks, carbon monoxide hazards, and accidental tipping. The FireCan is a temporary heating appliance, not intended for commercial use, and is designed to be easily transported and stored.

Usage Features:

The FireCan is designed for straightforward operation, with several features enhancing its usability:

  • Portability: The unit is equipped with foldable legs and silicone handles, allowing for compact storage and easy transport. The lid locks securely, and the regulator hose can be stored inside the unit, making it convenient to carry.
  • Quick Setup: To set up, the lid is removed, internal components (like the regulator hose) are taken out, and the foldable legs are extended. The Quick-Connect stem on the regulator hose easily attaches to the FireCan housing.
  • Propane Fueling: It connects to an LP gas cylinder (not exceeding 20 lb/9 kg capacity) via a QCC-1 coupling nut. The LP tank valve knob is turned counter-clockwise to open the gas flow, and the Flame Adjustment Knob on the FireCan controls the flame size.
  • Ignition: Ignition is achieved by placing an elongated lighter (BBQ style) into the ignition hole on the side of the FireCan and slowly rotating the Flame Adjustment Knob clockwise until fuel flow is heard and the flame ignites.
  • Flame Adjustment: The red Flame Adjustment Knob allows users to control the flame height, rotating clockwise for a larger flame and counter-clockwise for a smaller flame. Three full rotations typically provide maximum flame for extreme conditions or higher elevations, while one to one-and-a-half rotations usually provide a good flame height.
  • Safety Features: The FireCan includes a regulator that ensures a safe operating pressure. It is designed to be used on a flat, non-flammable surface, away from combustible materials. The manual emphasizes checking for gas leaks with a soap solution before each use and never using a flame for leak detection. It also warns against using the appliance in enclosed spaces due to carbon monoxide hazards.
  • Cool-Down and Breakdown: To extinguish the flame, the Flame Adjustment Knob is turned counter-clockwise to fully close the valve, followed by closing the valve on the propane tank. The unit must be allowed to cool down for at least 10 minutes before moving or removing the hose. Once cool, the Quick-Connect socket and hose connector are detached, the hose is coiled and stored inside, the lid is reconnected and secured, and the legs are folded for packing.
  • Low Flame Troubleshooting: If a low flame is experienced, it may indicate that the CSA excess flow safety device in the hose regulator has been tripped. The solution involves turning both the LP tank knob and the Flame Adjustment Knob to the off position and restarting the setup process from the beginning.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the FireCan:

  • Hose and Burner Inspection: Before each use, the hose assembly and burner must be inspected for any signs of abrasion, wear, or damage. Damaged components must be replaced with factory-authorized parts from Ignik Outdoors.
  • Cleaning: The appliance, including the burner, should be wiped lightly with a damp cloth if it becomes soiled or dirty. Flammable or corrosive cleaning products should not be used. The inside and outside of the FireCan housing should be cleaned frequently to prevent debris build-up, especially combustion particulates, after the unit has fully cooled down.
  • Leak Checks: All connections and fittings should be checked for leaks using a soap solution (50/50 mix of dishwashing soap and water) during setup. Bubbles indicate a gas leak, which must be repaired before using the fire pit.
  • Storage: The FireCan should be stored in a dry place and kept out of the rain when not in use.
  • Propane Cylinder Care: The propane cylinder and its connection should be inspected for damage before attaching. If the propane cylinder "freezes off" or lower flames are experienced, it may be necessary to turn the burner control setting to low for 5-10 minutes or replace the cylinder with a full one.
  • General Care: All connections and fittings should be kept clean and tight, ensuring they are not cross-threaded. The unit should never be altered in any way, nor should any device or part not included with the unit be installed.
