The Ignis EB1400 is an ethanol burner designed for use in custom-made fireboxes. It functions as a clean-burning fireplace, producing water vapor and carbon dioxide as byproducts. The burner is intended for indoor use and requires specific installation and operation procedures to ensure safety and optimal performance.
Function Description:
The EB1400 operates by burning bio-ethanol liquid fuel, which is specifically designed for ventless ethanol fireplaces. The burner features a sliding lid that allows for adjustment of the flame height and can be fully closed to extinguish the flame. It is designed to be fitted into a firebox constructed from non-combustible materials such as stainless steel, stone, or wonderboard. The device provides ambient heat and a visual flame, but it is not intended to be used as a primary heat source.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Model: EB1400 Ethanol Burner
- Fuel Type: Approved Bio-Ethanol Liquid Fuel for Fireplaces
- Clearances (Minimum):
- Front (A): 1-1/2 inches (4 cm)
- Rear (B): 1 inch (2.5 cm)
- Side (C): 1 inch (2.5 cm)
- Overhead (D): 24 inches (61 cm)
- Nearest Combustible Radius: 24 inches (61 cm)
- Cut-Out Dimensions (for firebox):
- Length: 12-1/2 inches (31.8 cm)
- Width: 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm)
- Depth: 3-1/4 inches (8.3 cm)
- Air Space Requirement: Not to be used in a small room where less than 44m³ (1550ft³) of air space is provided for each 1000 Btu per hour of fireplace (considering maximum burner adjustment).
- Warranty: 3 years for parts and labor, starting from the date of purchase.
Usage Features:
- Ignition: To ignite, the sliding lid should be adjusted to its widest opening. The burner is then filled with ethanol up to the "Max" line, taking care not to overfill or spill. A long match or lighter should be used, maintaining a safe distance (arm's length) and avoiding standing directly over the burner.
- Flame Adjustment: The flame height can be adjusted by opening or closing the sliding cover on the burner.
- Optimal Flame Height: The fuel will burn low initially; it takes approximately 10-15 minutes to reach optimal temperature and flame height.
- Extinguishing: The flame should never be extinguished with water. To extinguish, the control tool must be used to fully close the sliding cover in a fast motion. If the flame is not extinguished immediately, the process should be repeated. It is recommended to let the fuel burn out completely to prevent deflagration upon reigniting.
- Refilling: The burner must be allowed to cool down for at least 20 minutes before refilling. Fuel should never be poured into a burning flame or a hot burner.
- Fuel Storage: Fuel containers must be stored away from any heat source, out of reach of children and pets, and at a safe distance (minimum 1 meter / 40 inches) from the fireplace. Fuel should not be stored in the living space or in the same location as the appliance.
- Safety Distances:
- Maintain a safe distance of at least 1 meter (40 inches) from the fireplace when the flame is lit.
- Keep flammable materials (drapes, curtains, decorations) at least 4 feet away from the fireplace.
- A safety distance of at least 2 meters (80 inches) should be kept from any window or curtain.
- Ventilation: The ethanol fireplace should only be used in well-ventilated areas with doors of adjacent rooms open. Airflow to the burner should not be obstructed by logs or other materials.
- Prohibited Uses:
- Do not use the fireplace in a bathroom, a room where sleeping accommodation is provided, or any other small room.
- Do not burn under overhanging items.
- Do not use the appliance to heat or boil water or as a cooking appliance.
- Do not ingest bio-ethanol fuel or allow contact with eyes and skin.
- Do not use bio-ethanol car fuel or any other unapproved fuel.
- Do not install doors or an unvented gas log set into this appliance.
- Do not modify the burner in any way.
- Outdoor Use: If the fireplace is used outdoors, it should be covered or brought indoors once cool to protect it from water, leaves, and debris.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning:
- Burner surfaces should be cleaned regularly with warm water and soap.
- Marks can be removed with a soft cloth and a mixture of lukewarm water and a small amount of pH-neutral cleaning liquid.
- Regular cleaning of stainless steel items is recommended to prevent contamination.
- Caution: Never use chemical cleaners, steel-wool, or scrubbing sponges, as these can scratch the surface.
- Inspection: The sliding cover of the burner should be checked for warping or damage before each use.
- Spill Management: Any spilled ethanol must be immediately removed with an absorbent tissue and cleaned with water to prevent ignition outside the burner reservoir.
- Cooling Time: Allow at least 15 minutes for the fireplace to cool down before touching it after the flame is extinguished.
- Emergency Preparedness: It is strongly recommended to keep a Class B fire extinguisher nearby in case of fire.
