Overview

The GRILLSKÄR is a gas barbecue designed for outdoor use only, utilizing liquid propane (LP) gas. It is not intended for use with natural (piped in city) gas, charcoal, or other similar fuels. The barbecue is supplied with a propane regulator (EN16129 compliant) and an LPG hose (EN16436-1 compliant) no longer than 1.5m in length. It is crucial to use only the supplied regulator and hose assembly, and never an adjustable regulator.

Function Description:

The GRILLSKÄR gas barbecue allows for outdoor grilling and cooking. It features multiple burners (6) controlled by individual control knobs (7), a cooking grill (4), a warming rack (3), and a griddle plate (13). The hood (2) allows for covered cooking, similar to a convection oven, which helps circulate heat evenly and maintain cooking temperature. The vaporizer bars (5) distribute burner flame across the cooking area and vaporize food juices, reducing flare-ups. An ignition button (8) provides a convenient way to light the burners. The barbecue is equipped with a grease tray (10) and grease cup (11) to collect fat and juices, which must be cleaned regularly.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Gas Category: I3+(28-30/37)
  • Gas Type and Pressure: Propane/37mbar
  • Maximum Gas Consumption: 1029gm/h
  • Total Heat Input: 14.4kW
  • Main Burners Injector Size: 0.95mm
  • Cylinder Compatibility: Minimum 4kg / 9lbs, maximum dimensions of 32cm x 58cm.
  • Regulator: Propane regulator (EN16129 compliant) with a service pressure of 37 mbar and power below 1.5kg/h of propane.
  • Hose: LPG hose (EN16436-1 compliant), no longer than 1.5m.
  • Clearance: Minimum of 1 meter from flammable items or structures from the side and back of the appliance.

Usage Features:

  • Ignition: To light the barbecue, open the hood, ensure control knobs are in the 'OFF' position, turn on the gas supply at the cylinder, turn a burner control knob to the 'HI' position, and press and hold the ignition button (8). If ignition doesn't occur within 5 seconds, turn the knob to 'OFF', wait 5 minutes, and repeat. In windy conditions, shield the barbecue from wind for easier lighting.
  • Manual Lighting: If the ignition system fails, remove the cooking grill, griddle plate, and vaporizer bars. Place a lit match beside the burner (at the sparker shield location). Push and turn the rightmost control knob anti-clockwise to the 'HI' position. Once successfully lit, other burners can be lit from left to right.
  • Preheating: After ignition, burn the burners at the 'HI' position for 3-5 minutes with the hood open to preheat the barbecue.
  • Cooking: For best results, cook with the hood down and burners on a low setting. The thermometer in the hood indicates the internal cooking temperature. Avoid lifting the hood frequently to prevent heat loss.
  • Flare-Up Control: To reduce flare-ups, trim excess fat from meat and poultry before grilling. Always cook with burners on a low setting. Regular cleaning of burners and vaporizer bars is essential.
  • Turning Off: Push the control knob (7) in and turn it to the 'OFF' position. Turn off the gas at the cylinder and disconnect it when not in use.
  • Gas Cylinder: The gas cylinder must be stored upright, underneath the main barbecue body. It should never be stored or laid on its side. Only use propane or butane LPG bottled gas. Propane is suitable for year-round use, while butane is only for warmer temperatures. Never fill the cylinder beyond 80% full.
  • Regulator Connection: Ensure all control knobs are 'OFF'. Connect the "Compact Quick-on" regulator to the cylinder valve by placing it on the valve and pushing down firmly until a "click" is heard. The regulator handle must be in the "off" position before fitting. To open gas flow, turn the handle anti-clockwise to the horizontal 'ON' position. To close, turn clockwise to the horizontal 'OFF' position.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the barbecue regularly between uses, especially after extended periods of storage. Ensure all components are cool before cleaning.
  • Grease Tray and Cup: Check and clean the grease tray (10) and grease cup (11) regularly before every use. Never use the barbecue without the grease cup in position.
  • Barbecue Body: Remove excess grease or fat from the barbecue body (9) with a soft plastic or wooden scraper. For full cleaning, use hot soapy water and a cloth or nylon-bristled brush. Remove cooking surfaces and burners before full cleaning. Do not immerse gas controls or manifold in water.
  • Cooking Grill: Clean with hot soapy water. For food residue, use a mild cream cleaner on a non-abrasive pad, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Burners: In normal usage, burning off residue after cooking keeps burners clean. Annually, or when heavy build-up is found, clean burners (6) to ensure no blockages (debris, insects) in the portholes or venturi tubes. A blocked burner can lead to a fire beneath the grill.
  • Vaporizer Bar: Clean the vaporizer bar (5) with soap and warm water using a low abrasive cleaning cloth or sponge.
  • Leak Testing: Perform a leak test before first use, annually, when dismantled, when parts are replaced, or if the gas cylinder is removed or replaced. Use a solution of 1/2 water and 1/2 soap brushed over all gas system joints. Bubbles indicate a leak. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Hose Inspection: Inspect the gas hose before each use for twisting, tension, cuts, cracks, or excessive wear. Replace the flexible LPG hose prior to its expiry date as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Regulator Maintenance: In extended periods of non-use, disconnect the regulator from the cylinder and protect it from debris and dust. Replace the pressure regulator within 10 years from the date of startup. Ensure the vent (3) on the regulator is not blocked.
  • Storage: Store the barbecue in a cool, dry place like a shed or garage when not in use. Do not leave it uncovered or exposed to extreme weather conditions. If stored indoors, disconnect the gas cylinder and leave it outside in a dry, well-ventilated area away from heat or ignition sources. Cover burners with aluminum foil to prevent insects.
  • Fasteners: Regularly check and tighten all screws and bolts.
  • Servicing: Servicing is recommended after every 100 hours of use or annually, whichever comes first.
