Overview

The Illusion Esprit Gas Log Fire is a heating appliance designed to provide continuous warmth and the traditional charm of a wood-fired heater without the associated hard work. It is manufactured by Illusion Australia Pty. Ltd. and has been fully tested and approved to AUSTRALIAN STANDARD AG 103, with AGA APPROVAL NUMBER-6286. The appliance is available in various models, including EGL63NG, EGL63LP, EGL70NG, and EGL70LP, catering to both Natural Gas (NG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LP) types.

Function Description:

The Illusion Esprit Gas Log Fire operates as a gas space heater, utilizing gas logs and coals to simulate the appearance of a real wood fire. It provides radiant heat and is designed for ease of use, eliminating the need for wood fuel. The unit incorporates a thermostatically controlled fan to distribute heat efficiently. An optional radio frequency programmable remote control allows for convenient operation, including turning the unit on/off, activating the thermostat, and programming daily schedules. The remote also features a countdown timer for automatic shut-off.

Important Technical Specifications:

The models vary in gas consumption and output:

  • EGL63NG (Natural Gas): Gas Consumption 33 Mj/h, Manifold Pressure 0.83 kPa, Injector Size 3.0 mm, Max Output 7.19 kW/h, Average Efficiency 76.1%.
  • EGL70NG (Natural Gas): Gas Consumption 40 Mj/h, Manifold Pressure 0.73 kPa, Injector Size 3.8 mm, Max Output 8.6 kW/h, Average Efficiency 77.9%.
  • EGL63LP (LPG): Gas Consumption 28 Mj/h, Manifold Pressure 1.25 kPa, Injector Size 1.8 mm, Max Output 5.74 kW/h, Average Efficiency 72%.
  • EGL70LP (LPG): Gas Consumption 37 Mj/h, Manifold Pressure 2.25 kPa, Injector Size 1.8 mm, Max Output 7.58 kW/h, Average Efficiency 72%.

Electrical components conform to AS 3100, operating at 240V 50Hz 60 watts. The gas connection uses Rp1/2 ISO 7 threading with a torque of 25Nm. If flanges are used, the recommended torque for flange fixing screws is 3Nm. Pilot burner connections can use pipes with Ø 4mm, Ø 6mm, or Ø 1/4, tightened to 7 Nm torque. The appliance features a DRAFT DIVERTER at the rear, which must not be altered or obstructed. Minimum distance from the top of the heater to the ceiling is 1500mm. Rear wall clearance is 100mm, and side clearances are 75mm.

Usage Features:

  • Lighting Instructions: The unit is ignited by depressing and turning the control knob to the "PILOT" position, then pressing the red igniter button. Once the pilot flame is lit, the knob is released slowly. For main burner ignition, the knob is depressed and turned to the "ON" position. To turn off, the knob is depressed and turned to the "OFF" position. A restart interlock device prevents ignition until flame failure has stopped gas flow.
  • PYROGLOW® Gas Logs: These logs offer realistic surface textures and colors, providing a radiant natural glow when burning and a natural look when idle. They boast superior strength compared to ceramic fiber, are made from an inert refractory formulation (ceramic fiber-free), create virtually no fume emission, and are thermal shock resistant. They contain no asbestos.
  • Thermostatically Controlled Fan: The fan automatically turns on 10 to 15 minutes after the heater reaches a predetermined temperature and shuts off 10 to 15 minutes after the heater is turned off and the firebox has cooled. This feature enhances convenience and energy saving.
  • Remote Control (Optional): The programmable remote control allows operation from anywhere in the house, eliminating the need for line of sight. It can be programmed for daily on/off times and includes a countdown timer. Fan speeds can still be adjusted manually via the remote.
  • Safety Guards: A primary safety guard is supplied and must be fitted when the heater is operating. For the protection of young children or the infirm, a secondary guard is required.

Maintenance Features:

  • Annual Service: Annual service should be performed only by an Authorized Illusion Installer or Gas Fitter. This includes cleaning the burner and control compartment of lint and dust, inspecting the flue system, and checking the flames.
  • Cleaning: The burner and control compartment should be brushed and vacuumed at least once a year. The logs should be cleaned with a soft, clean brush due to their fragile nature. Glass, louvers, and the door can be cleaned with a damp cloth when the unit is cold; abrasive cleaners should not be used.
  • Paint Curing: The exterior surfaces are finished with heat-resistant paint. During the initial firing, the paint will cure, producing a light smoke and odor. To enable proper curing, the unit must be run on high without the fan for approximately 3-4 hours, with windows and doors open if possible.
  • Log Replacement: Logs should only be replaced by an Authorized Illusion representative. The unit should never be used with broken logs. Improper positioning of logs can lead to soot buildup and carbon monoxide, affecting performance and voiding the warranty.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as pilot flame going out, main burner flame going out, heater turning off after 30 minutes, black soot on logs, rattling fan, and strong odors during initial use. It emphasizes contacting a dealer or authorized gasfitter for persistent problems.
  • Door Removal: Instructions are provided for removing the top panel and swinging open the side panels to access and remove the heater door for maintenance or log replacement.

Important Safety Information:

  • Installation must be performed by an Authorized Installer in accordance with AG 601 and municipal building codes.
  • The appliance must be installed with an approved flue system terminating outside the building, never within the roof cavity.
  • Do not modify or adjust the heater.
  • Never use paper, wood, or any other solid fuel in this appliance.
  • Keep the area around the heater clear of combustible materials, aerosols, and flammable vapors.
  • If gas smell is detected, immediately shut down the unit, turn off the gas supply, and contact a gas supplier or service department from a neighbor's home. Do not use mobile phones or electrical appliances in the building.
  • A flue spillage test must be performed by the installer to ensure proper draft and prevent flue gases from blowing back into the room.
