Do you have a question about the Indesit 28113 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Indesit HI561 IXUK and HI591 IXUK, with commercial codes 28113 and 28114 respectively, are canopy cooker hoods designed for both extraction and recirculation modes. This instruction booklet, titled "Aura," provides comprehensive guidance on the installation, use, and maintenance of these appliances.

Function Description

These canopy hoods are designed to be fixed to any rigid vertical surface above a gas or electric hotplate. Their primary function is to remove contaminated air and cooking odors from the kitchen environment.

In extraction mode, the hood ducts the air to the outside of the building. This mode is ideal for effectively removing steam, grease, and odors from the kitchen. It requires proper ducting to an external vent.

In recirculation mode, the hood filters the air internally and then returns the cleaned air to the room. This mode is suitable for situations where external ducting is not feasible. In this mode, charcoal filters are essential for absorbing smells and odors.

The hood is equipped with a fan motor that can operate at various speeds, controlled by a user-friendly panel. It also features worktop illumination to provide light over the cooking area.

Usage Features

The control panel of the Indesit Aura cooker hood offers intuitive operation with four distinct buttons:

  • BUTTON T1 (Lighting System): This button turns the lighting system on and off, illuminating the cooking surface below the hood.
  • BUTTON T2 (Low Speed): This button activates the fan at a low speed, ideal for obtaining a particularly silent but continuous flow of air when the level of cooking fumes is low. This setting is energy-efficient for light cooking.
  • BUTTON T3 (Medium Speed): This button sets the fan to a medium speed, suitable for most normal operating conditions. It provides an excellent balance between treated air flow and noise level, making it versatile for everyday cooking.
  • BUTTON T4 (High Speed): This button engages the fan at a high speed, designed to deal with heavy cooking fumes, even for long periods of time. This is useful for intense cooking activities that generate significant smoke or odors.

Safety Warnings for Use:

Several safety warnings are highlighted to ensure safe operation:

  • Disconnect from Mains: Always disconnect the hood from the mains supply before carrying out any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Filter Maintenance: Grease and charcoal filters should be cleaned or replaced as recommended by the manufacturer, or more frequently if the hood is used consistently for over 4 hours per day. Neglecting this can lead to fire hazards.
  • Gas Hob Usage: When using a gas hob with the cooker hood, never leave the burners uncovered while the hood is in use or when pans have been removed. Switch off the gas before removing pans, even for short periods, and never leave the hob unattended.
  • Flame Intensity: Always ensure that the flame is kept at the correct intensity to prevent it from licking around the bottom of the pan. This saves energy and avoids a dangerous concentration of heat.
  • Manufacturer's Instructions: Always ensure the appliance is used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for the removal of contaminated air and odors during cooking.
  • Flambé Cooking: Never do flambé cooking under this cooker hood.
  • Frying Pans: Never leave frying pans unattended during use, as overheated fats and oils may catch fire.
  • Negative Pressure: If the room contains a fuel-burning appliance (e.g., central heating boiler), it must be of the room-sealed or balanced flue type. If other types are fitted, ensure adequate air supply. When used with other non-electric appliances, the negative pressure in the room must not exceed 0.04 mbar to prevent fumes from being drawn back.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance and cleaning are crucial for ensuring good performance, reliability, and extending the working life of the hood. Special attention should be given to the grease filters and charcoal filters, especially when the hood is used in recirculation mode.

Metal Grease Filters:

  • Cleaning: The metal grease filters should be cleaned every two months with normal usage. They can be cleaned either in a dishwasher or by hand using a mild detergent or liquid soap.
  • Replacement: To remove the filters, push the handle towards the rear of the hood. When replacing, ensure the handle faces outwards.
  • Fire Hazard Warning: It is explicitly stated that there could be a possible fire hazard if the filters are not replaced according to these instructions.

Charcoal Filters (for Recirculation Mode):

  • Functioning: In recycling mode, charcoal filters absorb smells and odors. The hood is designed to be fitted with two charcoal filters on both sides of the fan unit.
  • Cleaning/Replacement: Charcoal filters cannot be washed and must be replaced at least every 4 months, or more frequently if the hood is used consistently.
  • Replacement Process: To remove, place a hand on one filter at a time and turn it towards the front part. The filter can then be removed. Always ensure to replace both filters at the same time.
  • Fire Hazard Warning: Similar to grease filters, a possible fire hazard exists if charcoal filters are not replaced according to instructions.

Worktop Illumination:

  • Bulb Replacement: The worktop illumination is provided by 40W bulbs. To replace them, first remove the metal clips. The glass diffuser is held by retaining lugs. Pull the glass diffuser slightly to one side to disconnect it from one lug, then pull slightly downwards and slide in the opposite direction to remove it. Replace the lamps or neon strip, then reassemble the glass diffuser by reversing the steps.

Cleaning the Hood:

  • General Cleaning: When cleaning the hood, never use a wet cloth or sponge, or running water.
  • Chemicals: Avoid using thinners or products containing alcohol, as they might damage the paintwork.
  • Abrasives: Never use abrasive cleaning materials, especially when cleaning stainless steel surfaces.
  • Recommendation: It is recommended to use a damp cloth and mild liquid household cleaner for cleaning.

Installation Overview:

The installation process involves several steps to ensure proper and safe fitting:

  • Wall Brackets and Splashback: Fix the wall brackets and, if applicable, the splashback first. A vertical line from the cooking appliance to the ceiling helps ensure correct alignment.
  • Canopy Hood: Hook the canopy to the wall bracket and adjust it vertically and horizontally using the provided screws. Secure it with a central fixing screw.
  • Ducting/Recirculation Setup: Configure the hood for either extraction (ducting to the outside) or recirculation (internal recycling). For extraction, suitable ducting (120mm or 150mm) must be provided. For recirculation, the recirculation spigot and charcoal filters must be installed.
  • Electrical Connection: Connect the hood to the mains supply, ensuring the mains voltage matches the rating plate and that the appliance is earthed via a double pole switch with 3mm clearance.
  • Working Test: After electrical connection, check that the worktop illumination, motor, and speed functions work properly.
  • Telescopic Chimney Stack: Fit the plastic supports to the top part of the hood. Expand the upper section of the chimney slightly to fit over the wall brackets and secure it. The lower section fits between the lower bracket and the wall, and the U-shaped section is fixed to the plastic supports.

The Indesit Aura cooker hood is designed to comply with European regulations on low voltages (EEC Directive 73/23), electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EEC Directive 89/336), and EC marking (EEC Directive 93/68).
