Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the Indesit XWD 61452 washing machine, covering installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Indesit XWD 61452 is a washing machine designed for domestic use, offering a variety of wash cycles and customisation options to suit different laundry needs. It features a control panel with a WASH CYCLE knob for programme selection, TEMPERATURE and SPIN SPEED knobs for customising settings, and FUNCTION buttons for additional options. The machine includes a detergent dispenser drawer for washing detergents and additives. A key feature is the "Push & Wash" function, allowing for quick and easy start of a pre-set wash cycle. The display shows cycle duration, remaining time, and delayed start countdown. For safety, a "DOOR LOCKED" indicator light signals when the porthole door cannot be opened. The machine also incorporates a load balancing system to minimise vibrations and noise during spin cycles.

Usage Features

The washing machine offers both rapid and traditional programming methods. For rapid programming, users simply load laundry, add detergent, close the door, and press the "PUSH & WASH" button. This activates an automatic, non-customisable cycle suitable for cotton and synthetic fabrics at 30°C with a maximum spin speed of 1200 rpm. For traditional programming, users turn on the machine, load laundry, select a programme using the WASH CYCLE knob, set temperature and spin speed, add detergent, choose desired functions, and then press the START/PAUSE button. The display provides real-time updates on cycle duration. To cancel a cycle, the START/PAUSE button can be pressed, and a new cycle selected. At the end of a cycle, an "END" indicator light illuminates, and the door can be opened after the "DOOR LOCKED" light turns off.

The machine offers a wide range of wash cycles tailored for different fabric types and soil levels. These include:

  • Special cycles: Sport, Dark, Anti-odour (Cotton/Synthetic), Delicate, Wool, and Duvet.
  • Standard cycles: White Cotton (90°C), 60°C Cotton Standard, 40°C Cotton Standard, Synthetic (60°C/40°C), and Coloured.
  • Eco & Rapid cycles: Cotton Standard 20°C, 20' Refresh 20°C, and 60' Cotton.
  • Partial cycles: Rinse, Spin + Drain, and Drain only.

Users can personalise wash cycles by adjusting the temperature and spin speed. The TEMPERATURE knob allows setting the wash temperature or selecting a cold wash. The SPIN SPEED knob enables adjustment of the spin speed or complete exclusion of the spin cycle. The machine automatically prevents selection of temperatures or spin speeds exceeding the maximum values for each cycle.

Various functions can be activated to enhance washing results:

  • Sport: Optimised programmes for different types of sports clothing, including Sport Shoes, Gym Kit, and Technical Wear, designed to preserve fabric properties.
  • Fast Forward: Allows for an early end to the wash programme after only 20 minutes, performing a brief rinse and spin cycle. This reduces washing and rinsing performance but saves time and energy.
  • Easy Iron: Modifies wash and spin cycles to reduce creasing, with slow drum rotations at the end of the cycle.
  • Extra Rinse: Increases rinsing efficiency for optimal detergent removal, particularly useful for sensitive skin.

The detergent dispenser drawer has specific compartments: compartment 2 for washing detergent (powder or liquid, with a removable plastic partition for liquid detergent) and compartment 3 for additives like fabric softeners. Users are advised not to exceed the "max" level for fabric softener.

Preparing laundry involves dividing it by fabric type, label symbols, and colours, emptying pockets, checking buttons, and ensuring the maximum load weight for each cycle is not exceeded. Specific guidance is provided for garments requiring special care, such as sport clothing, dark garments, anti-odour items, wool, duvets, coloured clothes, and lightly soiled cottons.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the washing machine.

  • Water and electricity supplies: Users should turn off the water tap after each wash cycle and unplug the machine during cleaning or maintenance.
  • Cleaning the washing machine: The outer parts and rubber components can be cleaned with a soft cloth and lukewarm soapy water. The machine also has an "Auto Clean" programme for internal parts, which should be run with no load in the drum every 40 wash cycles. Detergent (10% of the quantity for lightly-soiled garments) or special additives can be used.
  • Cleaning the detergent dispenser drawer: The drawer can be removed by pressing a lever and pulling it out, then washed under running water. This should be done frequently.
  • Caring for the door and drum: The porthole door should always be left ajar to prevent unpleasant odours.
  • Cleaning the pump: The washing machine has a self-cleaning pump. To access the pre-chamber, users must remove the cover panel at the front, unscrew the lid, clean the inside, screw the lid back on, and reposition the panel.
  • Checking the water inlet hose: The inlet hose should be checked at least once a year for cracks and replaced if necessary. Only new hoses supplied with the machine should be used.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues such as the machine not switching on, wash cycle not starting, water intake problems, continuous filling/draining, drainage/spin issues, lack of heating, excessive vibration, and error codes. For persistent problems, users are advised to contact the Technical Assistance Centre.
