High beam headlights
To switch on the high-beam headlights:
•
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position or start
the engine.
•
Turn the light switch to

or <AUTO>
.
•
Pressthe combination switch beyond the pressure
point in the direction of arrow
j3.In the <AUTO>
position, the high-beamheadlights are only
switched on when it is dark and the engine is
running.
Theblue
m
indicatorlight in the combina-
tion meterlights up when the high-beam
headlights are switched on.
To switch off the high-beam headlights:
•
Move thecombination switch backtoits normal
position. The blue
m
indicator light in the com-
bination meter goes out.
NOTE
Vehicles with High beam Assist: when High beam As-
sistisactive, it controls activationand deactivation of
thehigh-beamheadlights(see“Highbeamassist(LED
headlight only)” later in thissection)
ADAPTIVE FRONTLIGHTING SYSTEM
(LEDheadlight only) (where fitted)
TheAdaptive Front Lighting System is asystem
that adjusts the headlights automatically to suit
the prevailingdriving and weatherconditions. It
offers
advanced functionsfor improvedillumi-
nation of the road surface,e.g. depending on
the vehicle speed or weather conditions. The
system includes the active light function, cor-
nering light function and motorwaymode. The
system is only active when it is dark.
Youcan activate or deactivate the “Adaptive
Front Lighting System” function using the ve-
hicle information display (see
“Switching the
Adaptive Front Lighting System on/off” earlier in this
section
)
Active light function
Theactive light function is asystem that moves
the headlights according to the steering move-
ments of the front wheels. In thisway relevant
areas remain illuminated while youare driving.
This allowsyou to recognise pedestrians, cy-
cl
is
ts and animals. It
is
active when the lights
are switched on.
Cornering light function
The cornering light function improves the illumi-
nation of the road over awide angle in the direc-
tion youare turning, enablingbetter visibility in
tightbends, for example.Itcanonlybeactivated
when the dipped-beam head lights are switched
on. It
is
active if
yo
ua
re driving at
sp
eeds below
40 km/h andswitchonthe turn signal or turn
thesteering wheel.
The cornering light function mayremain lit for a
shorttime, but is automatically switched off af-
ternolonger than three minutes.
