OPENING AND CLOSING THE BONNET
WARNING
•
Certain components in the engine compartment
could be veryhot, e.g. the engine, the radiator and
parts of the exhaust system.There is ariskofin-
jurywhen accessing the engine compartment. As
faraspossible, allow the engine to cool down and
only touchthe components described in the fol-
lowing instructions.
•
When the bonnetis open, and the windscreen wip-
ers are set in motion, youcan be injured by the
wiper linkage. There is ariskofinjury. Always
switch off the windscreen wipers and the ignition
before opening the bonnet.
CAUTION
Make sure that the windscreen wipers arenot folded
awayfrom the windscreen. Otherwise, youcould dam-
agethe windscreen wipers or the bonnet.
1. Make sure that the windscreen wipers are
switched off.
2. Pull the bonnet lockreleaselever
j

below the instrument panel on the driver’s
side; the bonnet will spring up slightly.
3. Push the lever

2atthe front of the bonnet,
to the left with your fingertipsand raisethe
bonnet.
4. Insertthe supportrod
j
3into the slot
j
4on
the underside of the bonnet.
5. When closingthe bonnet, replacethe sup-
port rodinits original position

5,slowly
lowerthe bonnet to about 20 – 30 cm (8 – 12
in.) abovethe bonnet lock, then let it drop.
Makesure the bonnet is securely latched.
WARNING
Alwayscheckwhether the bonnet is closed andlocked
securely to prevent it from opening whiledriving. The
vehicle should only be operated with the bonnet se-
curely closed.
