Important safety notes
It is the driver’s responsibility to set the tyre
pressureto the recommendedcold tyrepressure
suitable for the operating situation (See
“Tyres
and wheels” in the “8. Maintenanceand
do-it-yourself” section
.Note that the correct tyre
pressure for the currentoperating situation
mustfirstbe taught-into the tyrepressure moni-
tor.
If there is asubstantial lossofpressure, the
warning threshold for the warning messageis
aligned to the referencevalues taught-in. Re-
startthe tyre pressure monitor after adjusting
to thecold tyre pressure. The current pressures
are saved as new referencevalues. Thiswillen-
sure that awarning message will only appear if
the tyre pressure dropssignificantly.
The tyre pressure monitordoes not warn youof
an incorrectly set tyre pressure.
TPMSisnot able to warn youofasudden lossof
pressure, e. g. if the tyre is penetrated by afor-
eignobject.Inthe eventof asudden lossofpres-
sure, bring the vehicletoahalt by braking care-
fully.Avoid abrupt steering manoeuvres.
TPMS has ayellow warning lamp in the combi-
nation meter for indicating apressure lossor
malfunction. Depending on how the warning
lamp flashes or lights up, atyre pressure that is
too low or amalfunction in TPMSisindicated:
•
If the warning lamp is lit continuously, the tyre
pressure on oneormore tyres is significantly too
low. TPMSisnot malfunctioning.
•
If the warning lamp flashes foraround aminute
and thenremainslit constantly,the TPMSismal-
functioning.
In addition to thewarning lamp, amessage ap-
pears inthe vehicle information display.Ob-
serve the information on display messages(see
“Safetysystems” in the “2. Instruments and controls”
section
It maytakeuptoten minutes for amalfunction
of thetyre pressure monitor to be indicated. A
malfunction will be indicated by the tyre pres-
sure warning lamp flashing forapproximately
oneminute and then remaining lit. When the
fault has been rectified, the tyre pressure warn-
ing lamp goes out after youhavedriven for afew
minutes.
Thetyrepressurevalues indicated bythe vehicle
informationdisplay maydiffer from those mea-
suredatafilling station using apressure gauge.
The tyre pressuresshown by the vehicle infor-
mation display are those measured at sealevel.
At high altitudes, the tyre pressure values indi-
cated by apressure gaugeare higher thanthose
shown by thevehicle informationdisplay.Inthis
case, do not reducethe tyre pressures.
The operationofthe tyre pressure monitor can
be affected by interferencefrom radio transmit-
ting equipment (e.g. radio head phones, two-
wayradios) that maybebeing operated in or
near the vehicle.
Checking the tyre pressure
electronically
1. Makesure that the ignition switch is in the
ON position.

buttononthe steer-
ing wheel to select the [Serv.] menu.
3. Pressthe

pressure].
4. Press<OK> to confirm.
Thecurrent tyre pressure for each wheel will
be displayed inthe vehicle information dis-
play.
