SEAT BELTWARNINGS
Driver and front passenger
The seat belt warning light, located in the in-
strument panel, will alertthe driver if the driver
and/orfrontpassengerseatbeltsis not securely
fastened. See
“Warning lights, indicator lights and
audible reminders” in the “2. Instruments and
controls” section
for further details.
Rearpassengers
The rear passenger seat belt indicator is dis-
played in thevehicle information display.Inthe
example, the seat belts on the left and centre
rear seats, when viewed in the direction of
travel, are not fastened.
Forapproximately 30 seconds, the rear seat belt
statusindicator informsyouwhichrearseatbelt
is not fastened.
The rear seat belt status indicator appears if:
•
Youdrive off.
•
Therearpassengersfasten or unfasten their seat
beltswhile the vehicle is in motion.
•
Someone gets in or out of the vehicle and youpull
away again.
Youcan hide the rear seat belt status indicator
immediately by pressing the <OK> or
m
but-
ton on the steering wheel (see
“Hiding display
messages” in the “2.Instruments and controls” sec-
tion
).
THREE-POINT TYPE SEAT BELT
WARNING
•
Everyperson who drives or rides in thisvehicle
should useaseatbelt at alltimes.
•
Do not ride in amoving vehicle when the seatback
is reclined. Thiscan be dangerous. The shoulder
beltwillnot be against your body.Inanaccident,
youcould be thrown into it and receive neckor
other seriousinjuries. Youcould also slide under
the lapbelt and receive seriousinternal injuries.
•
Forthe most effective protection when the vehicle
is inmotion, the seatshould be upright.Always sit
wellbackand upright in the seat with both feet on
the floor and adjust the seat belt properly.
Fastening the seat belts
1. Adjustthe seat. (See
“Seats” earlier in thissec-
tion
.)
2. Slowly pull the seat belt out of the retractor
and insertthe tongue into the buckleuntil
youhearand feel the latchengage.
•
The retractor is designed to lockduring asud-
den stop or on impact. Aslow pulling motion
permits the belt to move and allows yousome
freedomofmovement in the seat.
