The pre-tensioner seat belt system mayactivate
with the supplemental air bag system in certain
types of collisions.
Working with the seat belt retractor and anchor,
it helpstighten the seat belt the instant the ve-
hiclebecomes involved in certain types of colli-
sions, helping to restrain front seat occupants.
Thepre-tensioner is encased with the seat belt
retractor. These seat belts are used the same
wayasconventional seat belts.
When apre-tensioner activates, smokeisre-
leased and aloud noise maybeheard. The
smokeisnot harmful, and it does not indicate a
fire.Careshould be takennot to inhale it as it
maycause irritation and choking. Those with a
historyofabreathing condition should getfresh
airpromptly.
After pre-tensioner activation, load limiters al-
lowthe seat belt to releasewebbing (if neces-
sary)toreduceforces against the chest.
The supplemental air bag warning light is used
to indicate malfunctionsinthe pre-tensioner
system. (See
“SRS air bag warning light” later in this
section
.) If the operation of the supplemental air
bagwarning light indicates there is amalfu nc-
tion, have the system checkedbyanINFINITI
Centre or qualified workshop.
When selling your vehicle, we request that you
inform the buyer about the pre-tensioner sys-
tem and guidethe buyer to the appropriate sec-
tionsinthisOwner’s Manual.

The BACK SEAT is the SAFEST placefor children
aged 12 andunder.Alwaysuse seat belts and
child restraints. Formaximum safety protection
in alltypes of crashes, youmustalwayswear
your safety belt. Do not sitorleanunnecessar-
ily close to the air bag. Do not placeany objects
overthe airbagor betweenthe airbag and your-
self.Ifthe air bag warning light staysonoris
flashing when the ignition switch is placed in
the ON position, go to an INFINITI Centre or
qualified workshop.Air bags canonlybere-
moved or disposed of by an INFINITI Centre or
qualifiedworkshop.
