No unauthorised changes should be made to any
components or wiring of the supplemental air bag
systems. Thisistoprevent accidental inflation of
thesupplemental air bags or damagetothe
supplemental air bag systems.

Do notmakeunauthorised changes to your vehi-
cle’selectricalsystem,suspension systemor front
end structure.Thiscould affect proper operation
of the supplementalair bag systems.
•
Tampering with the supplemental air bag systems
mayresult in serious personal injury. Tampering
includes changestothe steering wheel by placing
materials over the steering wheel pad and above,
and by installing additional trim materials around
the supplemental air bag systems.
•
Modifying or tampering with the front passenger
seat mayresult in serious personal injury. Forex-
ample, do not changethe front seats by placing
material on the seat cushion or by installing addi-
tional trim material, suchasseatcovers, on the
seat that is not specifically designed to assure
proper airbag operation.Additionally, do notstow
any objects under the front passenger seat or the
seat cushion and seatback. Such objects mayin-
terfere with the proper operation of the automatic
front-passenger air bag detection system.
•
No unauthorized changes should be made to any
components or wiring of the seatbelt system. This
mayaffect the air bag system. Tampering with the
seat belt system mayresult in serious personal
injury.

.Inafrontal colli-
sion, supplemental front-impact air bags in-
flate with great force. An inflating supple-
mentalfront-impact air bag could seriously
injure or kill your child.
Whenthe air bagsinflate,afairlyloud noisemay
be heard, followed by the releaseofsmoke. This
smoke is not harmful and does not indicate a
fire.However,careshould be takennot to inhale
it, as it maycause irritation and choking. Occu-
pantswith ahistoryofbreathing difficulties,
suchasasthma, should getfresh air promptly.
Supplemental air bags, along with the useof
seat belts, help to cushion the impact forceon
thechestofthe front occupants. Curtainair bags
help to cushion the impact forcetothe head of
occupantsinthe frontand rearouter seating po-
sitions. They canhelp save lives and reducese-
riousinjuries. However,aninflating side air bag
andcurtainairbag maycauseabrasionsorother
injuries.Supplemental side airbags and curtain
air bagsdonot provide restraint to the lower
body.
Supplemental front-impact air bag
system
Thedriver’s supplemental front-impact air bag
is located at the centre of the steering wheel.
The driver’s knee air bag is located under the
steering column. The passenger’s supplemen-
talfront-impact air bag is located at the instru-
ment panel above the glove box.
Thesupplemental front-impact air bag system
is designed to inflate in higher severity frontal
collisions, although it mayinflate if the forcesin
anothertype of collision are similar to those of
ahigher severity frontal impact. It maynot in-
flate in certain frontal collisions. Vehicle dam-
age(or lack of it) is not alwaysanindication of
proper supplemental front-impact air bag sys-
tem operation.
